Imphal: The Meitei Heritage Society (MHS) has issued a strong condemnation against Paojakhup Guite, the President of the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Delhi, after a video surfaced on social media allegedly showing him openly inciting violence and calling for the killing of Meitei people who plan to attend the upcoming 5th State-Level Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul.
Calling the video “shocking and inflammatory,” the MHS stated that such hate speech poses a grave threat to communal harmony and public safety. The organisation has demanded Guite’s immediate arrest and exemplary punishment, warning that failure to act could further embolden extremist elements.
“This dangerous and hate-filled speech must be met with the strictest legal consequences,” said the MHS in a strongly worded statement. “Guite is a habitual offender and reportedly already has an FIR lodged against him by Delhi Police as recently as March 2025.”
The society also linked the Kuki Students’ Organization to previous acts of violence. It alleged that the ambulance used by Kuki militants during the Koutruk attack in September 2024, in which Meitei civilians were killed, was connected to KSO.
The Shirui Lily Festival, scheduled from May 20 to 24 in Ukhrul district, is a prominent celebration of Manipur’s cultural diversity, nature, and heritage. The festival is seen as a symbol of inclusivity and unity among the state’s ethnic communities. The MHS emphasised that Meitei participation in such events reflects the community’s commitment to peace and brotherhood.
However, Guite’s video, where he allegedly threatens Meiteis from entering Ukhrul for the festival, has stoked fresh fears amid the already fragile law-and-order situation in Manipur.
The Manipur Police have reportedly registered an FIR against Guite, who is currently absconding. The MHS welcomed this move but stressed the need for swift and uncompromising action.
“Let this incident serve as a strong and unambiguous message that no individual or organization will be allowed to incite violence or destabilize peace without facing the full weight of justice,” the society concluded.
This development comes amid ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur, where violent clashes between Meitei and Kuki communities have claimed numerous lives and displaced thousands since 2023.
