In a significant development amidst the ongoing Operation Sindoor, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the implementation of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Addressing a press briefing, Misri stated that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations had spoken earlier this afternoon.
“At 15:35 hours today, the DGMO of Pakistan called his Indian counterpart. It was agreed that both sides would cease all firing and military activity — on land, in the air, and at sea — effective from 17:00 hours IST today,” the Foreign Secretary announced.

He added that instructions have been issued on both sides to enforce this mutual understanding immediately. The DGMOs are scheduled to hold another round of talks on May 12 at 12:00 hours to review the situation and further coordinate.
The ceasefire decision comes amid heightened tensions and active military operations along the border, drawing widespread attention across the region and internationally.
Prior to this development, India has conveyed that any future act of terror directed against the nation will be treated as an Act of War and will invite an appropriate and firm response.
The External Affairs Minister of India, Dr S. Jaishankar, said on ‘X’: “India and Pakistan have today reached an understanding to halt firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”

Sharing a post on social media platform Truth Social, US President Donald Trump wrote, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
However, in a post on X in 2018, then-US President Donald Trump remarked: “The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They provide safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, offering little help. No more!”
India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.
