Agartala: In a significant gesture underscoring interfaith harmony and shared values of service and nation-building, revered Buddhist monk and educationist Bhante Dr. Dhamma Piya, Chairman of the Buddhist Dhamma Deepa Foundation and Vice Chancellor of Dhamma Deepa University, attended the valedictory function of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Tripura Prant Sangh Shiksha Varg on Sunday May 4.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the 15-day training camp, Dr. Dhamma Piya praised the initiative as a model for character-building and national service. “Selfless service to society requires both discipline and proper training,” he said. “That is why initiatives like Sangh Shiksha Varg are so crucial. They instill patriotism and a deep commitment to public service.”

A permanent resident of Tripura and currently serving as Secretary of the Asia Buddhist Organization, Dr Dhamma Piya is familiar with the ground-level work of the Sangh. In his speech, he highlighted the spiritual and national importance of disciplined training, value-based education, and social unity. “No one is born with knowledge — everything must be learned through training,” he remarked. “Training is vital not only for spiritual growth but also for national development.”

The annual Sangh Shiksha Varg, held from April 20 to May 4, is an intensive residential training program conducted by the RSS to cultivate physically fit, ideologically aware, and socially responsible citizens. This year’s program drew swayamsevaks (volunteers) from diverse backgrounds — students, doctors, engineers, farmers, and entrepreneurs — showcasing the RSS’s growing and inclusive outreach in Tripura.

Dr Dhamma Piya called for greater cooperation across communities and castes for national integration and holistic progress. “Only through continuous moral training can one become a real man — conscious, compassionate, and socially responsible,” he said, leaving the audience with a thought-provoking message.

Also addressing the gathering was Ashok Biswas, Baudhik Pramukh of Tripura Prant, who outlined the RSS’s journey and its preparations for the centenary celebrations scheduled in the coming years. He emphasized the organization’s consistent commitment to nation-building through self-discipline, cultural rootedness, and collective action.

The program concluded on a high note, reinforcing the shared vision of a disciplined, unified, and service-oriented society — echoing the voices of both Hindu and Buddhist traditions.
