Weeks after the brutal killing of 70-year-old Haragobindo Das and his son Chandan Das (40) by a Muslim mob in Murshidabad, West Bengal, the bereaved family has now alleged they are being threatened by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons and the state police. The duo was hacked to death on April 11 amid violent anti-Hindu riots that erupted in protest against the recently enacted Waqf Amendment Act.
On May 4, the victims’ wife and daughter-in-law, Parul Das and Pinki Das, wrote a detailed four-page letter to West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, pleading for protection and requesting assistance to safely reach the Calcutta High Court to file a petition seeking justice.
In their emotional letter, Parul and Pinki wrote, “We, the two widows of Haragobindo Das and Chandan Das, are writing to you with a broken heart and trembling hands, seeking justice and ensuring security. We are writing this from a hidden location, not only fearing the threats of the ruling party but also the police who are continually threatening us.”

According to the letter, the two women are in hiding after being harassed and nearly abducted by a team of over 40 uniformed officers and several plainclothes personnel from the Bidhannagar Police Station. They alleged the police stormed into the house in Salt Lake’s BG Block where they had taken refuge.
“There were at least 40 uniformed police personnel and several others in plain clothes. They started shouting, threatening, and hurling abuses. Despite us pleading that we would not open the door, they broke in, damaged the property, and barged into the house where we were camping,” the letter stated.
Four individuals — Kalu Nadar, Dildar Nadar, Inzmam Ul Haque, and Ziaul Sheikh — have been arrested so far in connection with the brutal murder of the father-son duo. However, the family maintains that the key masterminds remain protected by the ruling regime.
The gruesome lynching occurred on April 11 in the predominantly Muslim district of Murshidabad, where riots erupted soon after Friday prayers (Jumma Namaz), allegedly as part of protests against the Waqf Amendment Act. However, these protests quickly turned violent and took the form of targeted attacks against the Hindu community.
Reports from the ground revealed widespread incidents of vandalism, arson, and looting of Hindu homes, shops, and temples. The situation became so dire that thousands of Hindus were forced to flee the area, many of them using boats to reach the neighboring Malda district for safety.
Despite the arrests, the family alleges that the situation remains unsafe for them due to continuous intimidation. They have appealed to the Governor for safe passage to the court and security from both political goons and the police.
The letter has intensified scrutiny over the state government’s role in handling the Murshidabad violence and the broader implications of politically shielded religious extremism.
