AAP’s ‘Education Model’ Exposed: 20,000 classrooms claimed, only 7,000 built; Toilets & storerooms counted as rooms

In a major blow to the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood exposed the discrepancies in claims of 20,000 new classrooms, revealing only 7,000 were built. Sood criticised the AAP government's focus on publicity over real progress in education

In a major setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood revealed that only 7,000 classrooms were constructed, contrary to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s claim of building 20,000 classrooms. Sood pointed out that the AAP government had counted toilets, storerooms, and even corridors as classrooms, exaggerating the figures to bolster their “Shiksha Kranti” and “Dream School” initiatives.

Sood criticised the practice, stating that his government would put an end to the Public Works Department (PWD) counting non-classroom spaces as classrooms. He warned, “One day, your actions will catch up with you, so don’t be surprised when that day comes.” The Minister also accused the Kejriwal government of prioritising publicity over actual work, citing how much money was spent on promoting the “Happiness Curriculum” and “Patriotism Curriculum” compared to the funds allocated for implementation.

The Minister also accused the Kejriwal government of spending more on publicity than actual work. He stated, “Rs 4 crore was allocated for the happiness curriculum, while Rs 20.87 crore was spent on its publicity. Rs 49 lakh was spent on the patriotism curriculum, and Rs 11.49 crore went towards promoting it.”

Further slamming the AAP government, Sood highlighted that while Delhi spent only 1.5 per cent of its budget on education, states like Manipur allocated more funds to the sector. He claimed that AAP’s promises to improve education were marred by corruption under the guise of educational reforms.
