Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K. Annamalai termed the current DMK rule as the worst in the history of the state. The recent JAC on delimitation is a cover-up measure for its all-round failures. He is confident that the party’s signature campaign for the three-language policy and NEP 2020 will surpass its goal of one crore and reach two crore, judging by the overwhelming response it is receiving from the public.

Addressing a mammoth public meeting in Trichy on March 23 – the first of eight meetings planned across the state – flanked by senior BJP leaders as a show of strength and unity, Annamalai said, “We have launched a signature campaign on March 5, with an aim of getting one crore signatures in support of the three-language policy and NEP 2020. It has received so far 26 lakh signatures in 18 days. At this rate we are on course to get two crore signatures.”

He assured the enthusiastic and committed audience that if the NDA government comes to power in Tamil Nadu in 2026, there would be equal education in both private and government schools. Explaining in detail, Annamalai said, “After we come to power, we will not give permission for private schools. Would convert all to PM Shri schools. Like how, TamiIsai Soundararajan as governor for Puducherry changed all government schools to CBSE with one signature.”
Terming the CM Stalin-led DMK government as insecure and targeting north Indian states, Annamalai said senior DMK leaders, with poor educational backgrounds, are not well-versed in states beyond the Vindhyas and have never travelled beyond Gummudipoondi (border of Andhra Pradesh). He alleged that the ruling party is solely driven by corruption and criminal activities.

Trichy is considered a DMK stronghold, but BJP meeting dismissed this assumption. As per sources, nearly five lakh people attended the meeting, proving that there is a shift in perception towards the BJP. It also debunked the DMK’s claim that people want a two-language policy.

Annamalai, TamiIsai, H. Raja, Nainar Nagendran, and others claimed that the DMK has been indulging in diversionary tactics, and the recent joint action committee on the ‘imaginary’ delimitation conference in Chennai is proof of this. Neither senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi nor West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress head Mamata Banerjee nor Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav attended, exposing the cracks within the INDI bloc. Only Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Karnataka Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann attended, besides leaders from Kerala’s fringe outfits. Former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik addressed the event online. BJP leaders described it as a meeting of corrupt elements, calling it nothing more than a club of mutual admirers.
Annamalai recalled that when the draft NEP was presented to PM Modi, he had opposed the suggestion of compulsory Hindi learning. Instead, he suggested that students learn in their mother tongue until the 5th grade, which has been made compulsory in NEP. This paves the way for students to study Tamil in the state. The ruling DMK organised the JAC meeting by inviting non-BJP ruled leaders and CMs in a lavish manner at a seven-star hotel. Though it was organised by the DMK, the entire official machinery, including DIPR and PROs, were in full attendance, posting meeting-related handouts, videos, and pictures. PM Modi had already clarified that no delimitation exercise is planned based on population. Amit Shah reiterated this in a meeting in Arakkonam, stating that it would be on a pro-rata basis. Whether the number of seats increases or decreases, the functioning of 40 DMK MPs in Parliament will not change—they will continue to shout, stage walkouts, create ruckus over trivial matters, and speak on issues not connected to the state. “JAC was a ploy to divert attention from its failures.”
Launching a scathing attack on the DMK government, Annamalai said, “DMK is purely dependent on TASMAC income. They indulge in corrupt activities in TASMAC procurement and sales. It faced the Lok Sabha 2024 elections and is planning to face the ensuing 2026 assembly polls using this revenue. In Tamil Nadu, murder for gain, revenge killings, gang wars over jurisdiction, burglaries, robberies, chain and bag snatching, and crimes against women and children have become the order of the day.”
Annamalai further said, “Minister Gandhi was involved in illicit liquor making and was booked under the Goondas Act. Senthil Balaji, who switched his loyalty to five political parties, is in jail in the PMLA case. HR & CE Minister Sekar Babu was a ‘history-sheeter’ and was active in North Chennai as a ‘rowdy’. Law Minister Raghupathy faces a DA case. Several other ministers are also facing court cases. Ponmudi’s conviction and sentence were stayed by the Supreme Court. Yet, these elements come together to decide what our children should study. This is amazing.”

When H. Raja was speaking against the DMK and Sekar Babu, Annamalai keenly observed his words. Raja remarked that after the NDA forms the government, Sekar Babu would be jailed permanently.

Speakers at the event pointed out that the massive crowd had gathered spontaneously, without expecting freebies like biryani, liquor bottles, or the Rs. 200 cash handouts that DMK and other parties are known to distribute.
