Several people sustained injuries after a violent clash broke out between two groups during a Holi procession in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Friday. The confrontation led to incidents of arson, with at least three shops allegedly set ablaze. Security forces have since been deployed, and officials have assured that the situation is now under control.

The incident took place in Ghodthamba under the Giridih district when a Holi procession, passing through a particular stretch, was reportedly opposed by a group. The opposition soon escalated into a heated argument, followed by stone-pelting from both sides.

Eyewitnesses recounted chaotic scenes as members of both groups engaged in violent clashes, hurling stones and creating a tense atmosphere in the locality. The unrest lasted for nearly an hour before law enforcement intervened.

Following the outbreak of violence, authorities swiftly responded by deploying a large contingent of police personnel to restore order. Khorimahua Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajendra Prasad stated, “A large police contingent was deployed to restore peace in the area. The situation is under control and is being monitored closely.”

Superintendent of Police Dr. Bimal Kumar confirmed that investigations are underway to identify those responsible for instigating the violence. “Action has already been taken against the culprits. Once identified, strict action will follow. Right now, the situation is under control, and no one has suffered any major injuries. Some vehicles were also set on fire,” he said.

Officials have reiterated that law and order remain their top priority, and efforts are being made to prevent any further escalation. Khorimahua Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Animesh Ranjan reassured, “The situation is peaceful now. The magistrate and forces were present at the site, and control was established immediately.”

Deputy Development Commissioner Smita Kumari added that all necessary orders have been issued to maintain peace. “The magistrate’s directives have been implemented. A strict vigil is being maintained by the police to prevent any further disturbances,” she said.

Authorities have confirmed that multiple individuals from both groups have been identified as participants in the violence. SP Dr. Bimal Kumar emphasised, “A clash broke out between two communities, but the situation is now under control. We have identified some of the miscreants and are working to identify more. Strict action will be taken against all those involved.”

As per police sources, officials from the district headquarters rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the disturbances. Their timely intervention played a crucial role in dispersing the miscreants and restoring normalcy in the area.

While no major injuries have been reported, the police are continuing their probe to ensure accountability. Law enforcement agencies remain stationed in the area to prevent any further outbreaks of violence.

This incident marks yet another communal flare-up in the region, highlighting the need for stringent security measures during festival processions to avert such conflicts in the future.
