The Uttar Pradesh Fire Department efficiently managed fire incidents at the grand Mahakumbh, ensuring zero casualties and upholding CM Yogi Adityanath’s vision of a ‘Surakshit Mahakumbh.’ The world’s largest religious gathering at Triveni Sangam saw 66 crore devotees, with Mahakumbh city spanning 4,000 hectares across 25 sectors and welcoming over one crore pilgrims daily.

With state-of-the-art equipment and swift response teams, the UP Fire Department tackled 185 fire incidents during the 45-day-long event, including 24 major ones, preventing any loss of life. Their proactive measures also averted financial losses exceeding Rs 16.5 crore.

According to UP Fire Department CFO Pramod Sharma, out of 185 fire incidents, 24 were serious, causing some tents and temporary structures to burn, but there were no casualties. Around 86 minor fire incidents were also reported, which were quickly controlled.

The CFO mentioned that the most significant fire accident occurred on January 19 in Sector-19 due to a cylinder explosion. However, the Fire department quickly rescued all devotees and Kalpavasis, bringing the situation under control in no time. Their efforts also prevented financial losses of approximately Rs 16.5 crore and saved eight animals from the fire.

He further informed that in order to ensure safety, 50 fire stations and 20 fire checkpoints were set up across 25 sectors of the Mahakumbh area. A total of 2,200 trained fire personnel were deployed for round-the-clock monitoring.

The Fire department also utilized 351 fire vehicles and modern firefighting equipment, including video and thermal imaging cameras, four articulating water towers, quick response vehicles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), firefighting robots, and fire mist bikes. Additionally, fireboats were used on houseboats and pontoon bridges to utilize river water for firefighting.

As a result, despite the fire incidents during this grand Mahakumbh event, the Fire Department successfully carried out rescue operations without any loss of life.
