Mahakumbh Nagar: Mahakumbh 2025 not only reached new spiritual heights but also set a global benchmark in terms of grandeur and divinity. The 45-day-long mega event witnessed an unprecedented gathering of over 66 crore devotees who took a holy dip in the sacred confluence, etching their names in history.

With the Yogi government’s relentless efforts and the central government’s support, Prayagraj witnessed a remarkable transformation, making Mahakumbh more magnificent and divine than ever before. From the common man to eminent personalities, everyone reaffirmed their faith on this sacred occasion. Most importantly, the unity that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had envisioned before the commencement of the Mahakumbh was vividly realized here.

More than 66 crore devotees participated in Mahakumbh 2025, creating a historic milestone. No other event has ever witnessed such a massive human gathering. This figure represents approximately 50 per cent of India’s population and surpasses the population of many nations worldwide.

All 13 Akharas actively participated in Mahakumbh 2025, strictly adhering to tradition by taking the holy dip on all three Amrit Snan occasions. Their follower Akharas also joined, with the Kinnar Akhara—an affiliate of the Juna Akhara—becoming a major attraction. These Akharas successfully conducted their initiation ceremonies, including appointments to key positions such as Mahamandaleshwar.

The Yogi government left no stone unturned in making Mahakumbh 2025 grand and divine. Mahakumbh Nagar was established over an extensive 4000-hectare area, divided into 25 sectors. Infrastructure enhancements included 12 km of newly constructed paved ghats, 1850 hectares of parking space, 31 pontoon bridges, over 67,000 street lights, 1.5 lakh toilets, and 25,000 public accommodations.

The Uttar Pradesh government allocated over Rs 7,000 crore for the event, while the central government’s support helped transform Prayagraj with a total investment of Rs 15,000 crore.

While the 45-day event saw a steady influx of devotees, six major bathing festivals recorded the highest participation:
* Paush Purnima (January 13) – 1.70 crore devotees
* Makar Sankranti (January 14) – 3.50 crore devotees
* Mauni Amavasya (January 29) – 7.64 crore devotees
* Basant Panchami (February 3) – 2.57 crore devotees
* Magh Purnima (February 12) – 2.04 crore devotees
* Mahashivratri (February 26) – 1.53 crore devotees

Between February 15 and 26, the number of devotees never fell below one crore on any given day.

Mahakumbh 2025 saw participation from leaders across the political spectrum. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Sangam. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and numerous Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, Governors, Legislative Assembly Speakers, and state ministers also joined the event, reinforcing the spiritual and cultural significance of the Mahakumbh.

Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan held cabinet meetings at Mahakumbh 2025, making significant policy decisions. The Chief Minister led the UP cabinet meeting, after which all ministers took a ceremonial dip in the Sangam. Similarly, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma and his council of ministers participated in a ritual bath before their meeting. Several other state leaders also brought their cabinets to Prayagraj to experience the spiritual grandeur of the event.

Mahakumbh 2025 was a unifying event that transcended political boundaries. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav and his team participated in the sacred bath. Leader of Opposition in the UP Assembly, Mata Prasad Pandey, was among the early participants. Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu attended with his family.

At the same time, other prominent leaders, including Digvijay Singh, Sachin Pilot, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Rajiv Shukla, and Dharmendra Yadav, also attended and praised the arrangements.

Several Bollywood celebrities expressed their faith by taking a holy dip at the Sangam. The event saw the participation of stars such as Akshay Kumar, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Pankaj Tripathi, Rajkummar Rao, Esha Gupta, Raveena Tandon, Vivek Oberoi, Anupam Kher, Hema Malini, Ravi Kishan, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Sonali Bendre. Prominent musicians and performers like Remo D’Souza, Shaan, Kailash Kher, Shekhar Suman, and Udit Narayan also added to the grandeur of the event.

Prominent industrialists participated in Mahakumbh 2025, demonstrating their devotion. Mukesh Ambani and his family, Gautam Adani, Anil Ambani, Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal, Lakshmi Mittal, Anand Piramal, and Ashok Hinduja were among the business magnates who took a holy dip at the Sangam.

Legendary sports personalities also participated in the event. Sunil Gavaskar, Suresh Raina, The Great Khali, Saina Nehwal, Baichung Bhutia, Anil Kumble, RP Singh, and Ishant Sharma not only took a dip in the Sangam but also sought the blessings of saints and sages.

One of the standout features of Mahakumbh 2025 was the Digital Mahakumbh initiative. A dedicated website and a mobile app were launched for the first time, providing real-time information and updates. AI chatbots assisted visitors, and an MoU with Google enabled seamless navigation across the Mahakumbh city. The Digital Khoya-Paya Kendra helped reunite thousands of lost individuals with their families, marking a significant success in crowd management.

CM Yogi meticulously monitored every aspect of Mahakumbh, ensuring flawless execution. Whether in Lucknow or Gorakhpur, he maintained a close watch on the arrangements. Over the course of this 45-day grand event, he personally visited Mahakumbh City 10 times, conducting on-site inspections, assessing ground realities, and providing essential directives.

Beyond his personal involvement, CM Yogi proactively dispatched top officials from Lucknow whenever necessary to evaluate the situation firsthand. A defining aspect of his visits was his outreach to all Akharas, Dandibara, Prayagwal, and Khakchowk. He met saints and spiritual leaders from all sects and traditions, honoring them with deep reverence, reinforcing the spirit of unity and devotion that defined Mahakumbh 2025.
