Don’t say I didn’t warn you: Is Bangladesh Army Chief General Zaman hinting at a military intervention

Muhammad Yunus clearly has a bad record and in the first 100 days of him being in charge, 2,100 incidents of communal violence mainly targeting Hindus have taken place. With the situation out of control, the army chief now has a stern warning

Bangladesh has been facing severe turmoil since the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government. Currently if one looks at the political landscape in Bangladesh none are on the same page.

The Muhammad Yunus led interim government, the Awami League and BNP are also working against each other. This signals more turmoil for the country. Now this truth has been revealed by none other than the Army Chief of Bangladesh, General Waker-uz-Zaman.

He has warned politicians that the internal conflicts pose a serious threat to national sovereignty and added that no one could later say that he did not caution anyone.

Fault lines exposed

It is a well-known fact that the Army is not on the same page as the interim government. In fact there are several reports that indicate that Yunus would want to make the army chief the scape goat. He would also look to replace the entire security force with his bandwagon of students who are prepping to set up an ultra radical Islamic outfit that governs by the law of Sharia.

General Zambian made it clear that if politicians’ resort to mudslinging among themselves then the independence of the country will be at stake. I am issuing a warning. You cannot say later that I did not caution you, General Zaman also said.

He also said that the turbulent situation in Bangladesh is because lawmakers are exploiting the situation. He said that the internal conflicts are the primary reason why the security mechanism is collapsing in the country.

Without naming anyone in the interim government, the army chief said that criminals are taking advantage since there is a collapse of law and order. Criminals are aware that they will be able to escape easily in the current situation.

He also urged the people not to broadly criticise the security forces for the controversial incidents and asked them to instead acknowledge their positive contributions.

Will there be an army takeover

Since the interim government took over many parts of it have criticised the army. They are attempts being made to suggest that General Zaman was the one who helped Sheikh Hasina flee from the country.

There have been repeated assaults on security personnel and mudslinging against the army and its chief.

The army chief however clarified that he does not have any personal ambitions. This can be considered as an important statement since the country has seen military interventions in the past. Bangladesh watchers tell Organiser that the statement by the army chief is a clear warning to the political class especially to the interim government that it needs to put its house in order failing which there could be a military intervention.

However, General Zaman has for now said that all he wants to do is bring the country to a stable point following which he will take a vacation.

The experts however feel that there is likely to be a military intervention soon. Not only is the violence not subsiding, but Yunus has devious plans to remain in power and make his students’ wing the decision makers.

The track record of Muhammad Yunus is nothing to boast about. Not only has the economy of the country collapsed, but Bangladesh has turned into a jihadi friendly nation. Yunus had called the terrorist group Ansarullah Bangla Team a Messiah of peace, while the ISCKON according to him is a fanatic group. Under his watch the ban on the radical Jamaat was lifted. Further scores of terrorists have been released from jail.

Moreover in the first 100 days of his rule, there have been 2,100 incidents of communal violence mainly directed at the Hindus. Further he has invited the rogue ISI with open arms. While for the media, it all seems like a strategic alignment, in reality it is a ploy by Yunus and the ISI to target Bharat. Once the ISI managed to get access to Bangladesh, it handpicked students from the movement and created the Islamic Revolutionary Army. The ISI is working on a devious plan of converting a students’ movement into a rabid armed struggle.
Now taking all these developments into account and the manner in which Bangladesh is turning more and more radical Islamist by the day, the statements by the army chief makes sense. He is clearly indicating that the mudslinging and the decisions that are being made are threatening national security. For now the army chief would wait and watch and if things turn even worse, then one can expect a military intervention in Bangladesh soon.
