A wave of devotion and celebration swept across Aurangabad village in Amethi district as the historic Shiv Mandir, closed for nearly two decades due to alleged encroachment, finally reopened for worship. The mandir, believed to be over 120 years old, was inaccessible for 20 years until authorities intervened, removing encroachments and allowing Hindu devotees to once again offer prayers to Bhagwan Shiva.
The Shiv Mandir was established over a century ago by a Dalit Hindu family in Aurangabad village, located in the Musafirkhana police station area. However, over time, as the Muslim population in the area grew, the mandir’s entrance was allegedly blocked, making it impossible for devotees to reach the premises. Gradually, worship stopped altogether, and for 20 years, the mandir remained shut.
Despite repeated complaints by the local Hindus, no action was taken for years. Many residents feared communal tensions and hesitated to raise their voices. However, the recent push from local activists and religious groups prompted the district administration to take action, leading to the mandir’s restoration.
After years of struggle, the Hindu community renewed its demand to reopen the mandir. Following their persistent efforts, the administration finally took decisive action and removed the illegal encroachment that had obstructed access to the mandir.
On February 16, the mandir’s gates were officially reopened, allowing devotees to step inside for the first time in two decades. The event was overseen by senior district officials, including the Circle Officer (CO) and Tehsildar, who ensured a peaceful and smooth process.
As the mandir doors opened, the atmosphere became charged with devotion. Vedic priests conducted an elaborate havan and puja, chanting powerful mantras as hundreds of devotees joined in the prayers. The air echoed with the resounding chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’, creating an overwhelming sense of spiritual fervor.
The rituals, performed at an auspicious time, were followed by the distribution of prasad, and devotees expressed their deep emotions, calling it a long-overdue moment of justice and faith.
Given the sensitive nature of the situation, a heavy police force, including PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary), was deployed around the mandir premises. Authorities took strict measures to prevent any disruptions and maintain communal harmony in the area. Security personnel will remain stationed at the site to ensure continued protection and allow uninterrupted worship at the mandir in the future.
The reopening of the Shiv Mandir has been hailed as a significant victory for the Hindus. BJP District Minister Atul Singh, who was present at the event, declared the moment as a triumph of Sanatan Dharma and Hindu faith.
Many locals, overwhelmed with joy, expressed gratitude to the administration for finally taking action after years of neglect. Devotees emphasised that the mandir must never be allowed to fall into neglect again, and they vowed to ensure regular worship to keep its sanctity intact.
