Jamui: Communal tension grips Baliadih locality of Jamui, after members of a local Hindu outfit was attacked by an enraged mob on Sunday, February 16, leading to injuries to a few people including a local councilor.
According to reports, members of a Hindu outfit namely “Hindu Swabhiman Manch was returning after a ‘Hanuman Chalisa Paath’ in Baliadih village under Jhajha police station limits when heavy stone pelting started near Baliadih mosque. The workers of the said outfit were attacked with stones, bricks and wooden sticks, resulting in injuries to at least three people.
One of the local councilor Nitish Kumar who sustained injuries in the attack was rushed to the nearby healthcare centre from where he was referred to Jamui. A number of vehicles belonging to the activists were also reported to be vandalised during the brawl.
Hindu activists injured in the attack claimed that the attack occurred when they were returning from the program in a peaceful manner. “We were returning after the program when a mob of over 300 people including of women and children attacked us, said one of the eyewitnesses.

Upon receiving information about the attack, more police personnel were dispatched towards the village who later succeeded in taking control of the situation. Heavy deployments of security personnel were made at the village and internet services were also suspended by the administration.
“After slogans were raised against those returning from the Hanuman Chalisa event, the police did not inform senior officials. Instead, they attempted to handle the situation themselves and even suggested changing the route. We have sought clarification from them and suspended them,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Jamui, Madan Kumar
Later on the police in an official statement informed that two separate FIRs were lodged under various sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at Jhajha police station. In one of the FIR the police has named a total of 41 individuals along 50-60 unknown people, while 8 people were booked along with other 50 to 60 unknown persons in the other FIR. Further a total of 9 people were so far arrested in connection with the incident and the administration has also suspended mobile internet services as a precautionary measure.
A police official present at the site of the incident was also suspended after he failed to act and inform about the deteriorating situation to the senior officials. The police has also staged flag march in the area and a peace committee meeting was also called in view of preventing any untoward incident. Police is camping in the locality and the situation remains control at the moment.
