Raipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is heading towards an impressive victory in Chhattisgarh urban body polls. According to the latest reports, the party has already secured victory on 7 out of the total 10 Municipal Corporations, while it is leading on the remaining three seats.
The party has emerged victorious in 33 out of 49 Municipal Councils and won 84 out of the 114 Nagar Panchayats. The counting of votes is still underway.
“It’s a historic victory for us. The BJP has achieved historic victory in the municipal elections. The voters have placed their trust in BJP. We have made “Atal Viswas Patra” for the elections after a long consideration and we are going to fulfill our promises,” said Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai while interacting with media personnel on Saturday, February 15.

Referring to the victory in Raigarh, the CM said “our party this time has given ticket to a tea seller Jeevardhan Bhai who has been working as a dedicated cadre for the party for years. He has registered an impressive victory. This can only happen in BJP.

Reacting to the results, former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and incumbent speaker, Raman Singh said that BJP is ahead in around 80% of the seat, the CM has put in all efforts in the state and that is being reflected in the results.
Notably, polling for 10 Municipal Corporations, 49 Municipal Councils, and 114 Nagar Panchayats were held across the state on February 11. The Election Commission had set up a total of 597 polling stations across the state for urban body elections. Out of the total 44.74 lakh voters, 22.52 lakh are male and 22.73 lakh are female.
The commission has also announced three-tier panchayat elections which will take place in three phases on February 17, 20, and 23, with results to be announced on February 18, 21, and 24, respectively. The commission has set up polling booths in extremely sensitive areas of Bijapur and Sukma districts where voting will be held after a significant gap of around four decades.
