Raipur: In a significant development, Raipur police and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested three suspected Bangladeshi nationals from Mumbai Airport in an operation on Monday.
Following their arrest, the joint team brought all the three accused to Raipur from Mumbai Airport. The trio was produced before a court which sent them to a three-day police remand.
Addressing the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Lal Umed Singh said that all three have been taken on a three-day remand by the police.
“Three men namely Mohammad Ismail, Sheikh Akbar, and Sheikh Sajan have been arrested based as they are suspected to be Bangladeshis. Doubts have been raised due to the documents found with them, which the Police are investigating. At present, all three have been arrested from Mumbai through ATS and brought to Raipur on transit remand. The Police have taken all three on a three-day remand,” he said.
“During the investigation, documents will be compiled and inquiries will be made on all aspects, after which further action will be taken,” SSP Singh said.

According to preliminary information, the arrested individuals were brothers who were residing in Tajnagar of Tikarapara in Raipur. They were planning to escape to Iraq to settle there permanently. The police have also seized fraudulent documents, including a fake Bharatiya passport, Aadhar card, Pan card, Voter ID card and visa of Iraq from the possession of the accused. They are further being interrogated by the police.
Notably, the state police in a major drive in December last year deported 850 illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators residing illegally in the state. Among those deported from the state were 500 infiltrators from Bastar, 350 from Kawardha, and others.
Police on January 30 also launched a massive verification drive to identify illegal migrants from other states residing in state capital Raipur. The police detained over 2000 people residing in separate area of the capital city for verification.

Reacting to the police drive aimed at verifying the illegal migrant, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao said that illegal residents have been causing law and order issues in Raipur, prompting the administration to take strict action against them.
“Illegal residents are creating law and order issues in the city (Raipur). It poses a danger to the law and order situation and also to the residents living in the city. These people don’t have identities and nothing is known about their whereabouts, hence the administration has decided to take serious action against those living illegally,” said Sao.
Further while taking a dig at the Congress party, Sao mentioned that, “Action against Rohingyas and Bangladeshis has been going on for a long time, but the Congress habitually links everything to elections. This is for the safety of the citizens of the city and the entire state.”
