For Communists in Kerala, attacking Hindus has become a daily strategy to survive and hold onto power. Their continuous assaults on Sanatan Dharma have now been echoed by Communist Party Secretary M.V. Govindan, who mocked Brahmins for allegedly claiming that having Brahmin children is the most sacred and culturally significant aspect of life.
Govindan argued that this mindset reflects the culture of Sanatan Dharma, where children are viewed as the ultimate symbol of cultural identity. He made these remarks during his inaugural address at the valedictory session of the CPM’s Idukki district conference on February 7, 2025.
CPM Party secretary added that in the Varna system, people like Amit Shah are at the top. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, OBCs, and EBCs are not Shudras. He claimed that 85% of those labelled as Hindus were subjected to untouchability.
The Communist leader Govindan further alleged that “those people” who advocate for replacing the Constitution, created under Ambedkar’s leadership, with a Manusmriti-based Constitution rooted in the Varna system, have failed to secure enough numbers in Parliament to achieve it.
He went so far as to allege that “they” viewed untouchables as dogs, denied them the right to speak, forbade women from covering their breasts, and prohibited men from growing moustaches. After marriage, a young bride had to go to her husband’s master’s house and could return only with the master’s consent. “This is Sanatan Dharma, the Dharma of the Brahmins, and it goes against the people of this country,” Govindan said.
By “they,” Govindan referred to Brahmins and followers of Sanatan Dharma. This marked a fierce attack by the CPM leader, targeting Sanatan Dharma.
Reacting to these remarks, several Hindu organisations have been criticising the CPM, Pinarayi Vijayan, and M.V. Govindan for their anti-Sanatan Dharma attacks.
Responding to this, BJP Keralam posted on X, stating, “The remarks are grossly insulting to the entire Hindu community of the state they govern. The stoic silence maintained by the opposition speaks volumes about the joint efforts of both political parties to deliberately portray the world’s oldest religion in an abysmal light.”

Now, the Yoga Kshema Samiti, an organisation of Brahmins, has condemned M.V. Govindan for his derogatory comments against Brahmins and Sanatan Dharma. They pointed out that Govindan seems to have forgotten that his party was once led by a Brahmin leader—clearly referring to former Chief Minister E.M.S. Namboothiripad.
The attack against Sanatana Dharma was initiated a couple of weeks earlier by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Pinarayi claimed that Sree Narayana Gurudev was neither a spokesperson nor a proponent of Sanatan Dharma, stating that Sanatan Dharma was nothing but Varnashrama Dharma. He alleged that there are attempts to confine Gurudev within the framework of Sanatan Dharma.
He described the Mahabharata as a cultural product that emerged when the tribal order was replaced by Varnashrama. He also seized the opportunity to denounce the Kingdom of Travancore, stating that the kingdom sought to establish royal rule based on Brahmanical hegemony.
It now appears that the CPM is in no mood to halt its tirade against Sanatan Dharma, with its sole target seemingly being the Islamic vote bank.
Critics argue that demoralising and attacking Hindus has become the primary agenda of the Communists. Their playbook is predictable—first, target Hindus, then divide them into groups and classes, disguising diversity as division. They propagate these divisions further, classifying communities as privileged and underprivileged, exploiting this manufactured disparity to take sides wherever it suits their political convenience. This is the standard operating procedure of Communist politics: divide, exploit, and conquer, all in the name of power and control.
This cycle repeats itself at regular intervals. Whenever the Communists are cornered for their failures, they dust off this old template—attacking Sanatan Dharma and Brahmins—to divert attention from real issues. It’s a well-designed distraction strategy, pushing people into a loop of manufactured outrage until they stumble upon a new issue to deflect public scrutiny. Communists have been doing this for decades.
Historically, invading Islamic and Christian evangelical forces have attempted similar tactics under the guise of religious superiority. When that narrative collapsed, they shifted gears, adopting an atheist front to continue the same divisive agenda.
At a time when the nation is witnessing the grandeur of the Mahakumbh, where millions are experiencing the essence of Sanatan Dharma, the Communists in Kerala find themselves unable to cope with this spiritual resurgence. Their response? Resort to what they know best—attacking Hindus, particularly targeting the Brahmin community.
