Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the AAP government in the national capital, accusing the party of ‘luring, distracting and diverting’ public attention from the key issues of the city and said that the result on the counting day will be in favour of BJP’s double engine government.
“People of Delhi have selected the path of development, and the result will be in BJP’s favour,” said Virendraa Sachdeva.
Speaking to ANI, Sachdeva said, “We believe that the result will come in favour of the BJP, our workers have worked with resilience and passion. The feedback from our party workers and early trends suggest that a double-engine government is being formed in Delhi.”
Taking a jab at the AAP, the Delhi BJP chief said, “Jhut ke paon nai hote hai.”
“The statements made by Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh yesterday show that they are going to lose. For the past 1 and a half years the BJP has not let Arvind Kejriwal run away from the issues. We have spoken about liquor scam, air and water pollution, poor roads, Sheesh Mahal, overflowing sewages, and on every issue Kejriwal was seen apologising,” said Sachdeva.
Further, he said, “These issues were necessary to show the plight of Delhi. AAP has tried to lure, distract and divert attention of the public from these issues. Today, the people of Delhi will decide if they will go with development or corruption. I think the people of Delhi have selected the path of development, and the result will be in our favour.”
“Central leadership will decide (CM’s face) of the national capital. This issue doesn’t matter much to us. Those (AAP) who betray people, the people will treat them like this (defeat) only,” said Sachdeva.
Meanwhile, the BJP has crossed the majority mark in the Delhi assembly election results, as per the early trends from the Election Commission.
The BJP is currently leading on 38 seats while the AAP is ahead on 27 seats.
The majority mark to form the government in the national capital is 36.
All security arrangements have been put in place. Polling for the 70-member assembly was held on February 5, with a total voter turnout recorded at 60.54 per cent.
The AAP is aiming for a third consecutive term, while the BJP is making all efforts to return to power after more than two decades in the National Capital.
Most exit polls released on Wednesday gave the BJP an edge over the AAP. However, AAP leaders said that exit polls have historically underestimated the party’s performance. They expressed confidence in returning to power.
The BJP’s campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, targeted the AAP over alleged toxicity in the Yamuna River and the renovation of Arvind Kejriwal’s residence as Chief Minister.
Key constituencies include New Delhi, where AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting against Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit and BJP’s Parvesh Verma.
