USAID is a criminal organisation. Time for it to die. This was a strong message put out by billionaire Elon Musk who currently heads DOGE under the new Donald Trump administration.

Since taking over as the President of the United States, Donald Trump has cracked down on the controversial United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In this process several officials have been sent on leave while contractors have been fired. Since the Trump administration imposed a freeze on foreign assistance, the website of the independent government agency went offline.

Trump has been the most critical of USAID and said that it had been run by a bunch of radical lunatics. We are getting them out, he said.

USAID and India

According to a report published by Heritage Foundation in 2017, USAID worked in close association with leftist billionaire George Soros during the Barack Obama Administration. The main agenda was to promote its radical agenda in several countries.

Evidence is emerging that during the past eight years, Soros, his Open Societies Foundations (OSF), and their many smaller affiliates have received U.S. taxpayer money through USAID and that USAID has made the OSF the main implementer of its aid,” the report said.

It is no secret that Soros who has funded many anti-India campaigns has been trying to create a colour revolution in the country. Soros was also unhappy with the Adani growth story and has launched a scathing attack on the businessman.

He had said that Modi and Adani are close allies and their fate is intertwined. He further added that Adani tried to raise funds in the stock market, but failed. He also accused Adani of stock manipulation, following his his stock collapsed.

Soros who worked with USAID has also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a crony capitalist. “Modi is silent on the subject, but he will have to answer questions from foreign investors,” he said.

He further went on to accuse of PM Modi of creating a Hindu nationalist state. To further his agenda he has many cronies in India. For instance some of the top persons on his payroll include Amrita Singh, the daughter of former Prime Minister the late Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Soros has also funded an NGO in 2018 to thwart a defence deal with France and stall the delivery of Rafale fighter jets which are critical for the Indian Air Force. Soros’ Open Society Foundation has also funded the Socio-Legal Information Centre which has been seeking a repeal of the sedition law.

It all began in 1999 when Soros through his Open Society Foundation provided scholarships and fellowships to pursue studies and research at colleges in the country.

He also funded Freedom House and V-Dem with the sole intention of tarnishing Bharat’s image at a global level. According to DisInfo Lab, Freedom House has received funds in the rune of millions from the OSF, Ford Foundation, National Endowment for Democracy and USAID. Freedom House is the primary partner of USAID.

USAID has also funded Sam Pitroda’s NGO Global Knowledge Initiative. Pitroda is a close aide of Rahul Gandhi and the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress. During a trip to Uzbekistan in 2023, Rahul Gandhi had met with former administrator of USAID Samantha Power.

USAID does not matter to Bharat

According to an archived page on the USAID website, the US has provided development and humanitarian assistance to India since 1951. This was the year when President Harry Truman had signed the India Emergency Food Assistance Act.

“USAID’s program has evolved progressively over the decades from emergency provision of food, to infrastructure development, capacity building of key Indian institutions, support for the opening of the Indian economy and more,” information on the website said.

While USAID has been used to establish agricultural universities and engineering colleges, operations in India have always come with a string of conditions attached. In 1965, USAID gave India $67 million loan rto build a chemical fertiliser factor in Chennai then known as Madras. The condition was that a private American company be in charge the distribution rather than the Indian government. Further it was also stated no additional fertiliser plants can be built in the region.

However, in the year 2004, the Indian government decided to reject any foreign aid that comes with such conditions. This led to a decline in the quantum of such assistance. USAID for the year 2024 stood at $141 million down from $153 million in 2023. In the year 2001, it stood at $208 million.

Unlike countries such as Ukraine, Pakistan or Bangladesh which have pressed the panic button due to this pause by Donald Trump, New Delhi is hardly concerned.

The rate at which USAID has come down would mean that India will tackle any sort of disruptions in the near future. Although it funds some initiatives, it is only a small amount in terms of the country’s total expenditure on social welfare programmes.

Regime change operations

Robert F Kennedy Jr, who was appointed as the Health and Human Services secretary by the Trump administration recently said that the USAID had financed the Maidan Rebellion in Ukraine. The CIA had put $5 billion into funding the riots which eventually led to a coup d’etat against the first elected, democratically elected government of the Ukraine.

He also revealed that Victoria Nuland, who was the spokesperson of the US State Department was picking cabinet members in the new Ukraine government.

“USAID doesn’t really do and the CIA doesn’t do democracy. You know, the CIA has overthrown, I think, 83 governments between 1947 and 1997. That’s a third of the governments on Earth and most of them were democracies. It doesn’t do, it doesn’t do democracy.”

USAID also played a role in the ouster of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh. A few months prior to her ouster, she had spoken about interference by the US deep state. The US administration and its agencies had conspired against the Sheikh Hasina led government in Bangladesh since 2019. To achieve this, the US government funded non-profit organisation called International Republican Institute was put in charge of the regime change. This organisation is tasked to implement projects that are funded by USAID

The Bangladesh story is very obvious because in no time George Soros’ stooge Muhammad Yunus was placed at the helm of affairs. When the USAID was frozen, Yunus dashed off to meet with Soros’ son. The USAID had signed an agreement to provide $202 million to the interim government in Bangladesh led by Yunus. On paper the objective behind this funding was to empower youth, strengthen democracy and governance and also bring development to Bangladesh.

At the end of it, USAID only ended up throwing out democracy in Bangladesh and then installing Yunus who has led Jihad thrive and the ISI make the country their playground. Today the developments in Bangladesh clearly suggest that it is anything but a democracy.
