Omar’s love for illegal immigrants Rohingya Muslims in J&K, but silent on Kashmiri Hindu’s return

The Omar Abdullah government neglected rising targeted killings of minorities in Kashmir and supported the illegal settlement of Rohingya Muslims in Jammu, seen by some as a security threat. Meanwhile, the plight of displaced Kashmiri Hindus remains ignored, with no progress on their return home.

Before the J&K assembly elections and after coming into power in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Omar Abdullah government not only failed to address the issue of target killings in Kashmir but also failed to take any necessary steps concerning the killing of the minorities as well as non-locals living in the Kashmir Valley. The people belonging particularly to the minority community are still living in fear. Still, Omar’s love is only for illegal immigrants, the Rohingyas, living in the areas of the Jammu region. After the abrogation of articles 370 and 35A, the frustrated terrorist organisations, as well as their overground workers, have not only started targeted killings by their overground workers (OGWs); terrorists have been all too regular in the Kashmir Valley in recent months, killing a large number of innocent people, primarily from minority communities, locals as well as non-locals. It was a planned strategy of the terrorists; their overground workers and their jihadist organisations have devised a plan to instill fear among minorities and non-locals in the Kashmir Valley and push them to flee.

All incidents have been registered, but the cruel killers and reasons for the barbarous killings of innocent non-locals have yet to be identified and traced. Concerning the Rohingya Muslim’s illegal deportation to Jammu and their illegal settlement, it is a planned strategy to change the demography of the Jammu region so that in the coming years, the same situation emerges as is emerging in other states of the country like Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, etc. On one side, the social as well as political leaders have been demanding that immediate and strict action should be taken by the Union Territory administration as well as the central government to deport Rohingyas from Jammu and Kashmir, citing the adverse impact of their illegal settlement and encroachment on the areas that are not only near army camps but also very close to crowded areas. Day and night, these illegal immigrants are rag-picking and performing labour close to sensitive locations, such as gas facilities, army installations, and train stations. Numerous individuals (Rohingya Muslims) have already been charged in numerous criminal proceedings. This sensitivity of their movements is easily understood.

These illegal immigrants (Rohingyas) have had the harshest effects in many areas of Jammu. Some NGOs are also helping them and offering them every assistance they can, but what are their primary goals and objectives? Without a doubt, the central government is contributing a large sum of money to non-governmental organisations and other social service providers for them to work in the direction of the nation’s safety and security, but what these so-called NGOs are doing on the ground is facilitating those who are a threat to the nation’s safety and security. Although security officials are aware of that, their presence in various parts of Jammu also poses a greater security risk to the country as a whole, the security forces, and civil society. It is not hard to comprehend Omar Abdullah’s soft corner for the Rohingyas and the reasons behind his support for these illegal immigrants (Rohingya Muslims). Publicly, “If Omar Abdullah feels that there should be some kind of humanitarian sympathy for these illegal immigrants (Rohingya), then he should direct authorities to shift all these Rohingyas to the Kashmir region rather than burdening the Jammu region, which is a big threat. Number of times civil society members of Jammu have raised these questions about how these illegal immigrants have been brought and settled here in Jammu. The settlement of Rohingyas, Bangladeshi nationals of a particular community in Jammu, is a major threat as well as a “political conspiracy” involved in bringing and settling them in Jammu City. A probe should be ordered into this concern.

The Kashmir-centric leadership is always concerned about these illegal immigrants (Rohingya Muslims) and some other issues that always relate to Pakistan’s interests but not to the Kashmiri Hindu’s return. Of course, it’s been a long time, and these Kashmiri Hindu people are still waiting for justice. Whatever happened to these people during their forced relocation in the ’90s is still vivid in their minds. Kashmir’s Hindus were particularly hard struck by the terrorism that swept through the valley.

These people are still waiting for the return of their houses and belongings. Every day, they only have one question: when will they be able to return home? The Kashmir-centric leadership and political approach not only overlooked a major segment of society but also failed to restore the confidence of forcibly displaced people and Holocaust survivors. But Omar Abdullah’s affection and brotherhood are only for these illegal immigrants (Rohingya Muslims). If Kashmir-centric politicians are truly concerned about the forced relocation of Kashmiri Hindus, why are they transporting them to their homes back in Kashmir? Have they ever taken their family members to their residences and assured them they would not be harmed if they lived there? Have they ever confronted Hurriyat leaders about their anti-national intentions and activities? Blaming others is a simple solution, but taking action is another story. The reason for this is that no one took the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus seriously, and now they merely beat their chests and cry for brotherhood.
