Amid a concerning rise in attempts to derail trains by placing objects such as cylinders and logs on tracks in various parts of the country, a shocking revelation has emerged: training on how to derail trains is reportedly being imparted in certain madarsas. A probe led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) has uncovered a conspiracy to target trains in the Jhansi and Kanpur regions.

Madarsas Under Scanner for Radicalisation

According to the investigation, students in these madarsas are allegedly being radicalised and instigated to participate in activities aimed at derailing trains. The agencies revealed that some youths are receiving explicit training on methods to carry out such acts. This training, they claim, is being conducted via online platforms, with several incriminating videos recovered during raids.

In these videos, radical Islamists are seen not only instigating youths to target trains but also providing detailed instructions on how to execute the plans. The investigation has identified one key suspect, Mufti Khalid Nadvi, a madarsa teacher, who is currently under interrogation.

Raid, Mob Attack, and Temporary Release

On Thursday, NIA and ATS teams conducted a raid at Mufti Khalid Nadvi’s residence. He was questioned for several hours before being taken into custody for further interrogation. However, as the investigative team’s convoy was heading to the police station, a massive mob, including a significant number of women, attacked the convoy and forcibly freed Nadvi. The mob, which had reportedly gathered following announcements made from a local mosque, created a chaotic situation.

Later, the police managed to detain Nadvi once again. A laptop, mobile phone, and other electronic devices were seized from his possession. Authorities suspect these items could contain critical evidence linking him to terrorist activities and foreign funding. After an initial round of questioning, Nadvi was released, but he remains a person of interest in the ongoing probe.

Legal Action Against Mob

In response to the mob’s actions, the police have registered a case against approximately 100 individuals for attacking the convoy and freeing the detainee. Raids are being conducted to identify and apprehend those involved in the assault on the investigation team.

Previous Incidents and Patterns

Over the past three months, there have been multiple attempts to derail key trains, including the Sabarmati Express and Kalindi Express, in the Jhansi and Kanpur regions. In some instances, alert railway workers or vigilant locals identified and removed dangerous objects from the tracks, preventing potential tragedies. The Vande Bharat Express has also been a target, with incidents of stone pelting reported in the same region.

The revelations from the NIA and ATS investigation highlight a deeply concerning trend of radical activities aimed at undermining public safety.
