Puri: In a grand celebration of Indian Navy Day, the pristine Blue Flag Beach in Puri, Odisha, served as the venue for a remarkable Operational Demonstration by the Indian Navy. The event, highlighted by a dazzling display of naval prowess, was attended by the President of India and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Droupadi Murmu, who was the Chief Guest. This celebration showcased the Indian Navy’s capabilities and its significant contributions to national security and maritime heritage.

Showcasing Naval Excellence

The Operational Demonstration featured a wide range of naval operations, including warships, submarines, aircraft, marine commandos, and Indian Army personnel. The event was hosted by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, and witnessed by senior officials from both the Central and State Governments, military dignitaries, and an enthusiastic local audience.

Navy Day, celebrated on December 4, commemorates the audacious Operation Trident during the Indo-Pak War of 1971, a moment of unparalleled bravery when the Indian Navy successfully attacked Karachi Harbour. The demonstration reflected the valor, courage, and unwavering resolve of the Indian Navy to safeguard the nation’s maritime interests, embodying the motto: Anytime, Anywhere, Anyhow.

President’s Address

In her address to the gathering, President Murmu extended heartfelt greetings to all naval personnel on Navy Day. She praised the Indian Navy’s rich maritime heritage and its critical role in securing India’s maritime borders, facilitating the nation’s journey toward becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

She emphasised India’s unique geographical advantage, with its extensive coastline, island territories, and a storied maritime history spanning over 5,000 years. “India’s fortunes, glory, and identity have always been defined by the seas,” she remarked, expressing confidence in the Navy’s ability to ensure maritime security and foster national development.

The President also commended the Indian Navy’s commitment to empowering women. She highlighted the induction of women Agniveers and the remarkable achievements of Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa, who are currently circumnavigating the globe aboard INSV Tarini as part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II, calling it a testament to the Navy’s pioneering efforts in championing Nari Shakti.

A Dazzling Display of Naval Prowess

The operational demonstration included the participation of 15 warships, advanced aircraft such as the MiG 29K and MH 60R, and a combat beach reconnaissance mission by Marine Commandos. Additional attractions featured performances by the Naval Band, a Continuity Drill, and a Horn Pipe Dance by SCC Cadets. The event concluded with the illumination of anchored ships and a breathtaking laser and drone show on the beach.

This was only the second time the Indian Navy hosted such a grand event at a non-naval station. Puri’s Blue Flag Beach, located about 500 km from Visakhapatnam and 200 km from the nearest naval station, INS Chilka, served as a fitting venue for this maritime spectacle.

The event was live-streamed on the Indian Navy’s YouTube channel and Doordarshan, allowing audiences nationwide to witness the grandeur of the celebration.

The Navy Day celebration not only honored the courage and sacrifices of naval personnel but also rekindled pride in India’s maritime traditions, underlining the pivotal role of the Indian Navy in shaping the nation’s destiny.
