The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a renewed appeal to Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to implement its guidelines permitting students to pursue two academic programs simultaneously. Despite the issuance of these guidelines on April 13, 2022, and subsequent reminders, many institutions have yet to establish mechanisms to facilitate dual enrollment.

The UGC has highlighted that several students continue to face hurdles in enrolling for two programs due to institutional demands for migration certificates or school-leaving certificates. These requirements conflict with the essence of the guidelines, restricting students’ ability to pursue dual academic opportunities.

In letters dated September 30, 2022, and January 10, 2023, the UGC urged HEIs to amend their admission processes through their statutory bodies to align with these guidelines. However, over two years later, some universities remain non-compliant, undermining the initiative’s potential to enhance educational access and flexibility.

Acknowledging the delays, the UGC has once again requested HEIs to take necessary steps to establish supportive mechanisms. Institutions are urged to revise their admission protocols and ensure students can benefit from the opportunity to enroll in two academic programs concurrently without unnecessary procedural obstacles.

Additionally, the UGC has announced the opening of applications for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) December 2024.
