Imphal: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sent 20 more Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies, totaling almost 2,000 personnel, to Manipur in response to the rising levels of violence. Fresh attacks and increasing unrest in the northeastern state prompted the decision, and on the night of November 12, instructions for urgent airlift and deployment became public.
The 198 CAPF companies now stationed in the area are anticipated to be strengthened by the new units, which are drawn from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The latest deployment comes after a bloody clash in the Jiribam region on 10 and 11th November, when terrorists wearing camouflage and equipped with cutting-edge weapons attacked the Borobekra police station and a nearby CRPF camp in Jakuradhor. In retaliation of the attack by security forces, 11 Kuki terrorists were killed in the hour-long gun fight.
On November 13, Kuki terrorists allegedly set a truck carrying onions on fire on the Jiribam-Imphal section of national highway 37.
The Rongmei Naga community has condemned the attack and announced an immediate, permanent boycott of all supplies to the Kukis in Tamenglong and Noney Districts. “The Rongmei people had repeatedly pleaded with the Jiribam Police to permit all vehicles—both loaded and unloaded—to freely allow all vehicles along NH-37 (24/7) between Jiribam, Tamenglong, and Noney Districts, to which they complied and appreciated, even without security escorts, as the entire stretch of NH-37 falls under Rongmei territorial jurisdiction,” the Rongmei Naga community responded to the incident in a press release.
Additionally, we recognize and value the efforts of the Manipur government, which offers security convoys for cars transporting crucial items and petroleum products. For everyone who lives close to or distant from Noney, the goods loaden trucks are the source of life. It is an assault on all of the residents of the Naga districts, not just the vehicles.
The Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization (RNSOM) vehemently condemns the recent attack on two trucks, with vehicle numbers MN05C3992 and AS 11 3577, by armed Kukis terrorists who opened fire and set the cars on fire at approximately 5:30 to 6:00 AM using automatic rifles. These trucks were delivering necessities to the districts of Tamenglong, Noney, and Longmai, such as rice, potatoes, and onions. The press release went on to say, “This attack is the second incident of its kind to target vehicles along NH-37 since the Kaimai incident, and it represents a deliberate attempt to undermine the existence of Rongmei people within their own jurisdiction.”
6 Internally Displaced People (IDP) including 3 women and 3 minors are still missing and security forces are conducting search operations to find the missing people.
