Imphal: As many as 3 women and 3 minors were allegedly kidnapped by suspected Kuki terrorists in violence-hit Manipur.
Following the deadly gunfight between security forces and heavily armed terrorists on November 11, violence erupted in Jiribam district of Manipur, resulting in the kidnapping of up to six individuals, including women and minors, by suspected Kuki terrorist groups. Manipur police have begun a thorough search for six missing people, including three women and three minors, who vanished after the armed terrorists’ violent attack on the Borobekra Police Station and a neighbouring CRPF post in Jiribam district.
Heavy-armed terrorists opened fire on the Borobekra Police Station and the CRPF post in Jakuradhor during the about 3 p.m. attack on 11th November. Inspector General of Police (Operations) IK Muivah called the event “unfortunate” during a news briefing, stating that militants ignored cease-fire orders, resulting in a fierce 45-minute clash that forced the security forces to retaliate. The battle claimed the lives of ten militants, injured a CRPF officer, and tragically killed two elderly people who had sought refuge in a relief camp at Borobekra Police Station.
Yurembam Rani (60), Telem Thoibi Devi (31), her daughter Telem Thajamanbi Devi (8), Laishram Heitombi Devi (35), and her two sons, Laishram Chingkheinganba Singh (2.5 years) and Laishram Lamnganba Singh (10 months), were among the missing people who were residing in the relief camp at the time of the attack. Security forces are making every effort to find the missing, and authorities have verified that reinforcements have been sent in.
IGP Muivah said, “A case has been registered in connection with the attack, and we are committed to finding those missing and restoring security in the area.” When questioned about allegations made by Kuki-based organisations that the 10 people killed in the conflict were civilians, IGP Muivah denied the accusation, claiming that the deceased’s clothing and confiscated weaponry showed they were terrorists and actively involved in attacks on security installations and civilian areas.
In the relief camp near Borobekra Police Station, thirteen persons had sought refuge. Two of these were killed in the attack, five were rescued, and six went missing. The incident highlights persistent security issues in the area, leading to a more intense response from both central and local law enforcement.
Residents of Imphal West’s Kangchup Chingkhong village have recounted a horrifying night of bloodshed following an alleged attack by Kuki terrorists. According to witnesses, terrorists arrived in two four-wheel drive vehicles and began firing randomly at residential areas, causing panic to spread. A number of homes were also set on fire during the incident, leaving families without a place to live and their belongings in ruins.
