The Intelligence agencies have said that Pakistan would go all out and increase infiltration attempts into Jammu and Kashmir before the winter sets in.
There is already a high alert along the International Border and Line of Control with Pakistan with the number of attacks going up in J&K. The Intelligence agencies have signalled to the India Army and Border Security Force that around 150 terrorists are waiting across the border to infiltrate and they would look for an opportune time to enter India.
While this is a normal strategy by Pakistan ahead of the winter, this year, the attempts would be even more fierce the agencies have said. With most of the top commanders and foot soldiers eliminated by the security forces, Pakistan would be looking to have a greater presence in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan usually looks to increase the number of infiltrations at this time since it is difficult to do so once the winter sets in. One of the main reasons for the attacks to go up in J&K is because they want to keep the security forces engaged so that the attention is turned away from the border areas and infiltrations becomes easier.
As per the Intelligence agencies, the infiltrators include terrorists and their handlers. They are fully prepared to infiltrate and if they manage to succeed they would look for a long haul in J&K.
With the disengagement taking place along the Line of Actual Control on the Eastern Ladakh border, the stress on the Army has reduced to a large extent.
The Indian Army is however leaving no stone unturned to prevent these infiltrations. The Armed Forces are equipped with advanced weapons and technology. They continue to conduct rigorous patrols along the borders, while the soldiers are conducting search operations win the forests, riverine areas and dense foliage along the border. The Armed Forces have been told to eliminate the those who try and infiltrate into India.
All these terrorists and their handlers have been positioned at Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The Intelligence agencies have managed to detect 38 launch pads and 14 training camps that have been set up over there.
Recently three terrorists who had infiltrated through the Akhnoor sector were gunned down by the security forces. All the three terrorists were part of the Jaish-e-Mohammad.
On October 29, Major General Sameer Srivastava had said that there are reports that extensive attempts are being made by the Pakistani terrorists to infiltrate into India. He said that the Army is on high alert and any such attempt would be countered in the strongest possible manner.
Over the last five years, the security forces have eliminated several terrorists and this has ensured that their count in J&K remains at a lowly 130. In the last five years, 720 terrorists have been killed in J&K.
The Indian Army recently installed new anti-infiltration grids along the Line of Control. These grids comprise state of the art equipment, thermal imagers and night vision cameras which constantly watch out for any sort of movement.
The grids consists of advanced UAVs, motion sensors and spotter scopes. This state of the art technology will ensure that any breach is immediately detected. Not just the infiltrators, but these grids are also equipped to detect and shoot down enemy drones. The new smart software that is being used in these grids can differentiate between human, animal, civil and uniform visibility.
