Legend of Maa Kalratri
Legend has it that when the world was engulfed in the malevolence of the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha, the great Mata Parvati transformed herself into the fearsome form of Maa Kalratri. She shed her golden exterior and emerged with a dark complexion and untamed hair, ready to confront the evil forces that threatened the universe. Her very presence struck fear into the hearts of her adversaries, for she was the embodiment of courage and power, wielding a cleaver and a torch—symbols of destruction and enlightenment.
Maa Kalratri’s fierce demeanor is not just about aggression; it symbolises the annihilation of ignorance and negativity. Devotees believe that worshipping her will not only help them conquer their fears but also liberate them from the shadows of their lives. As she rides a donkey, representing humility and groundedness, she reminds her followers of the strength that lies within, urging them to face their inner demons with tenacity and faith.
