RANCHI: Tension simmering in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi after prohibited meat was found in a plastic bag near a temple and another separate location, triggering protest by the local Hindu community on Sunday, September 29.

According to the media reports, a plastic bag containing pieces of prohibited meat was found near Thadpakhna under Lalpur police station limits in Ranchi on Sunday morning, angering the local Hindu community who subsequently jammed the Lalpur-Elbart Ekka road, demanding prompt action into the matter.

Learning about the incident, a few local representatives too joined the protest after which a police team tried calming the protestors by arriving on the spot subsequently. Though agitated by the incident, the protestors persisted on a quick investigation into the case and jammed the road for around 3 hours.

In a video pertaining to the incident, the locals along with the political representatives could be seen debating the alleged sale of prohibited meat in the city, requesting the officials to take stringent action against those who are involved in sailing, transporting the prohibited meat.

Though, contrary to the allegations labelled by the locals and political representatives, the police on the other hand assured that the sale of the prohibited meat will not be tolerated at any cost and immediate action will be taken if any such information is shared with the police. The police further assured the agitated crowd that action will be taken against the accused at earliest.

Meanwhile amidst the row in the Thadpakhna area, a similar bags containing the prohibited meat was also reported to be found at a separate location in the city, raising speculations about a possible attempt to create communal unrest at the time of festival.

Acting on the inputs, the police however promptly removed the bags found near the Chadri Sarna Sthal, preventing any further law and order situation in the city. The police subsequently launched a probe into the incident and examined the CCTV footage of the area which led to the revelation that the said bag carrying the prohibited meat was fallen from a tractor.

Meanwhile training guns at the leaders of the ruling coalition, Bharatiya Janata Party leader, CP Singh said that not a single leader/ representative of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha or Congress was seen at the spot, they even have restrained themselves from issuing any statements in the media about the incident.

This is worrying for the society, the policy of appeasement of a particular community has made them so blind that they are no longer affected by the hurt on Hindu’s faith, added the BJP lawmaker from Ranchi.

It must be noted that in a related development reported on September 9, tension erupted in Dhanbad’s Chirkunda police station limits after a few miscreants threw a piece of cooked meat near a Hanuman temple in Babudangal area.

The incident reportedly took place after dark, angering the locals who gathers on the spot in large numbers at the break of the dawn, demanding action against the accused. A police team after learning about the incident too reached the spot and tried calming the agitated gathering, assuring action against the culprits. Later the police also detained a few individuals in connection with the incident.
