RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh government has launched a campaign to provide housing for the Pahadi Korwa tribe, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). Under this campaign, concrete houses will replace the makeshift huts in which generations of Pahadi Korwa families have lived.

Following the instructions of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the administration in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh has launched a campaign to provide housing facilities to Pahadi Korwa people under Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana. The PVTG population, who were living in makeshift huts from several generations, received concrete houses under the scheme and now, they are appreciating the scheme.

Balrampur district, located on Chhattisgarh’s northern part, around 5000 families of PVTG and still most of them were residing in makeshift huts made from mud. These villagers have to face serious problems while residing in such houses.

Villagers informed that they have to face trouble due to water dripping from the house during the rainy season. Similarly, snakes, scorpions as other poisonous insects also pose a serious threat to them. Now, the problem being faced by them has been resolved to a larger extent as the population belonging to PVTG are receiving housing facilities under the central government’s run Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana.

According to the officials in district administration, under the PM Janman Yojana, beneficiaries receive Rs 2 lakh in four installments for the construction of houses. Apart from labour payment of 45 days, the government is providing Rs 12000 for construction of the toilet.

Funds are directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, said the officials, adding that hundreds of people belonging from PVTG have already completed construction of houses under this scheme. The scheme has brought cheers on the faces of Pahadi Korwa people, said officials.

District Panchayat CEO Raina Jameel said that Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is constantly monitoring the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana. To ensure timely and hassle-free benefits of this scheme to the PVTG, the administration is frequently conducting camps at separate areas in the district.

So far, approval has been given for the construction of 2400 houses, of which 150 have been completed while remaining in progress, the CEO informed (With inputs from ANI).
