Ranchi: Shocking details have surfaced in Delhi police ongoing investigation linked to Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) Jharkhand module headed by a Ranchi based radiologist, Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad who along with his other associates were nabbed during a swift operation carried out by a joint team of Delhi police on August 22.

According to the reports, the members of the said outfit were involved in a major ploy aimed at providing trainings to the radicalised individuals alongside grooming a suicide bombers squad with an aim to establish a caliphate in India.

The aforesaid details have surfaced after a team of Delhi police recently visited Niakata forest area of Chanho near the state capital Ranchi, where the outfit’s members were planning to train armed fighters along readying a suicide bomber squad. Police have also done a videography of the proposed site of the training camp after the same was confirmed by the four suspected operatives of the AQIS.

The nabbed accused during the course of interrogation have also confessed that the outfit was planning to groom a strong terror squad in the state to further their activities of AQIS for which Ahmad was recruiting youths through his medical clinics.

It has been further unveiled, that the selection of Nikata forest was made after noting that the sound of ammunition fire would not travel too far or noticed by anyone as the place is deserted and has no settlement nearby.

Multiple raids by Delhi police busted module

A team of Delhi police along with special units of Jharkhand police, Uttar Pradesh police and Rajasthan police raided multiple location across states and detained over a dozen suspected operatives/sleeper cell agents of the AQIS module on August 22. Multiple locations were raided in the state of Jharkhand leading to arrest of the alleged main kingpin Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad, a radiologist at Ranchi based Medica hospital.

Ishtiyaq, an alumni of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was residing at Al Hasan residency in Ranchi. He also owns a clinic in Hazaribagh where he reportedly groomed a few individuals as sleeper cell agents. Prior to his arrest and termination from Medica hospital where he was employed as a part-timer, Ahmad had successfully evaded his terror affiliation during his full time service at the same hospital for three years.

He also has reportedly facilitated training facilities to six of the sleeper cell agents who were undergoing training at Bhiwadi of Rajasthan, around 80 kilometers from the national capital New Delhi. All the six suspected operatives of the AQIS were later arrested by the police team during the raids conducted on 22.

The joint team of police during the raids have also recovered sophisticated weapons from the possession of the accused, it was later revealed that the recovered weapon was procured by Ishtiyaq from Lakhisarai of Bihar.

The joint team during the raids also nabbed Faizan, a resident of Hazaribagh, who is considered close to Dr.Ishtiyaq as the latter was visiting Faizan house on regular intervals. Further Mufti Rahamatullah, who teaches in a local Madrasa at Chanho along with three other suspected operatives of the AQIS identified as Md. Moddabbir, Rizwan and Matiur Rahman were also detained by the joint team from Chanho, around 50 kilometres from state capital Ranchi.

Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent Terror Module

Notably, the Jharkhand module of AQIS was initially setup by notorious Abdul Rehman Katki who prior to his arrest from Mewat in 2016, had allegedly setup a core group of the AQIS with over a dozen people as its key members. Katki had also established a recruitment cell for the outfit which was being run by Jeeshan Ali, Saiyad Arshiyan, Abu sufiyan and Kalimuddin, all residents of Jharkhand.

It is pertinent to mention here that while all the other members of the recruitment cell were arrested by the security agencies, Abu Sufiyan, a resident of Tandwa is still at large. Sufiyan has reportedly received training in Pak Occupied Kashmir (POK) and was in touch with Dr. Ishtiyaq prior to the arrest of latter.

As per the inputs received, those arrested by the police during raids on August 22 were indulged in furthering the activities of AQIS which aimed to establish a Khilafat in India. Notably the dreaded terror outfit is reportedly augmenting its presence in India, Pakistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh where it is reported to be operating in close association with other radicalised groups.
