The Sultanpur District Court in Uttar Pradesh has issued an order for the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh. This case dates back 23 years, to 2001, when an FIR was lodged against Sanjay Singh and others. The district court has now, after hearing the case, ordered the arrest of Sanjay Singh. The court has also ordered the arrest of Samajwadi Party spokesperson and former MLA Anoop Sanda, along with six others.
According to information, on June 19, 2001, Samajwadi Party’s national spokesperson and former MLA Anoop Sanda, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, and half a dozen others were protesting on the road under the Nagar Kotwali police station. They were staging a demonstration near a flyover. At that time, an FIR was registered against them based on a complaint by the outpost in-charge. The FIR included charges of rioting, blocking the road, and other offenses against Sanjay Singh and others. During the investigation, a chargesheet was filed against Sanjay Singh, Anoop Sanda, and half a dozen other accused in court. The MP-MLA Court in Sultanpur district has now ordered the arrest of all the accused and set the next hearing date for August 28.
Sanjay Singh’s lawyer, Arvind Singh, stated that a petition was submitted in the MP-MLA Court last Friday, requesting a stay on the execution of the arrest warrant until the case is resolved in the High Court. The prosecution filed an objection to this request on Saturday, after which the court reserved its order. The information regarding the arrest order was received on Tuesday.
