NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda on Tuesday (August 20) appointed the party’s former General Secretary Ram Madhav and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy as election in charge for the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections. Their appointment comes into force with immediate effect.
Madhav served as BJP national general secretary during 2014-20 period. He was responsible for handling the political affairs of Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and other Northeastern states. It was in 2015 that Ram Madhav had played a significant role in getting the alliance formed between the PDP-BJP. It is also stated that he had played a vital role in developing the common minimum programme that was prepared for PDP and BJP with regards to power sharing in the erstwhile state.
Post the abrogation of article 370, there were demands to hold elections in the state. It was recently that the Chief Election Commissioner had announced the dates for the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The elections would be conducted in three phases. Polls will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18, 25 and October 1, 2024. The result for the assembly polls would be declared on October 4, 2024.
