On August 6, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai announced that security for Kashmiri migrants has been strengthened. He also revealed that 5,724 positions have been filled out of 6,000 jobs sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Package 2015 and the PM’s Reconstruction Plan 2008.

In a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha, Nityanand Rai stated that each eligible Kashmiri migrant receives Rs 3,250 per month, while each eligible Kashmiri migrant family can receive up to Rs 13,000 per month.

He mentioned that each eligible Kashmiri migrant receives 9 kg of rice and 2 kg of atta per month, while each eligible Kashmiri migrant family gets 1 kg of sugar per month.

Nityanand Rai stated that work is ongoing to construct 6,000 transit accommodations for Kashmiri migrants hired under the PM’s Employment Package.

He noted that five Government schools, including four higher secondary schools, have been established in the Kashmiri migrant camps.

Nityanand Rai stated that to enhance the security of Kashmiri migrants, the government has implemented several measures. These include a strong security and intelligence network, group security with static guards, 24/7 checkpoints at strategic locations, night patrolling, area surveillance, identification of vulnerable areas, appropriate security deployment, and intensified Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs).

He mentioned that unemployed migrant youth are receiving financial support through self-employment schemes. Nityanand Rai also noted that an online grievance portal, launched in August 2021, enables Kashmiri migrants to report issues such as encroachment, title changes, property mutations, and distress sales.

He stated that domicile certificates, Resident of Backward Area (RBA) certificates, Migrant Certificates, Income Certificates, Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) certificates, and registration certificates for Kashmiri migrants are being processed online.
