Amarnath Yatra 2024: Intelligence agencies uncover plot to disrupt Yatra by ISI and Khalistani terrorists

In a significant development, Indian intelligence agencies have reportedly uncovered a plot orchestrated by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Khalistani terror group Babbar Khalsa International aimed at disrupting the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. The plot, which involves targeting pilgrims, has raised serious security concerns.

According to intelligence inputs, the ISI plans to use Punjab’s gangster networks, radical groups, and terrorist organisations to execute an attack during the pilgrimage. Reports suggest a concerted effort to exploit local criminal elements to further their agenda of creating chaos and fear.

Furthermore, intelligence reports indicate that ISI is utilising Babbar Khalsa International to specifically target BJP leaders and prominent Hindu figures in Punjab and Delhi. This collaboration between ISI and Babbar Khalsa poses a multi-faceted threat, not only to the pilgrims but also to key political and religious leaders in the region.

Recent Intelligence Alerts

In June, an intelligence alert highlighted the presence of suspected terrorists equipped with advanced weaponry in a village near Pathankot. This alert prompted a swift search operation by security forces to neutralise any imminent threat. The proactive response underscores the heightened state of vigilance among security agencies.

Additionally, a Hindu preacher in Punjab recently received a threat letter from a group claiming allegiance to Khalistan. The letter, which contained menacing language, prompted the Punjab Police to register a First Information Report (FIR) and launch a search for those responsible.

Amarnath Yatra Overview

The Amarnath Yatra, a significant pilgrimage for Hindus, has seen over 400,000 devotees participating in the last 28 days. Pilgrims undertake a journey to the holy cave shrine of Baba Amarnath, situated at an altitude of 3,888 meters above sea level in Kashmir.

Devotees can choose between two routes to reach the shrine:

  1. Pahalgam Route: This traditional route from south Kashmir is 48 km long, requiring four to five days to complete the journey.
  2. Baltal Route: This shorter route from north Kashmir is 14 km long, allowing pilgrims to reach the shrine and return to the base camp within a day.

Security Measures

Given the intelligence inputs and the significant number of pilgrims, security agencies have intensified measures to ensure the safety of the devotees. The authorities are working tirelessly to prevent any disruption and to safeguard the sanctity of the pilgrimage.

The uncovering of this plot has heightened the sense of vigilance and urgency among security forces. As the investigation continues, authorities are focused on neutralising any threats and ensuring the safe conduct of the Yatra.

The revelation of this plot serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threats posed by extremist elements. It highlights the need for continued vigilance and robust security measures to protect both religious pilgrims and political figures from those who seek to destabilise the region. The collaboration between ISI and Babbar Khalsa International underscores the complexity of the threats faced, necessitating a comprehensive and coordinated response from security agencies.
