The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday, July 26, announced the re-revised results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024. This announcement comes after a thorough re-evaluation, which included a controversial physics question that had sparked considerable debate and confusion among candidates and educators alike.

Background on the Controversy

NEET-UG, the entrance examination for medical and dental courses across India, has been amid controversies ranging from question paper errors to alleged unfair practices in counseling. This year, a particular physics question was widely criticised for having ambiguous wording, leading to widespread confusion and calls for re-evaluation. The NTA’s decision to address this issue resulted in the release of the re-revised results.

Changes in the Re-Revised Results

The re-revised results have led to a slight decrease in the cut-off scores for the general category. The initial cut-off range announced on 4 June was 720-164, which has now been adjusted to 720-162. This minor adjustment, while seemingly small, reflects the meticulous consideration given to ensuring fairness in the evaluation process.

For candidates belonging to the scheduled caste (SC), scheduled tribe (ST), and other backward classes (OBC), the NEET-UG cut-off has been set at 161-127. Meanwhile, for SC-PH and OBC-PH candidates, the cut-off ranges from 143-127, and for ST-PH candidates, it stands at 142-127.

Seventeen students have achieved the top rank nationally, each scoring a percentile of 99.9992714. This exceptional performance highlights the high level of competition and academic excellence among NEET-UG candidates.

Detailed Cut-Off and Qualification Statistics

General Category: The cut-off for MBBS and BDS courses is at the 50th percentile.
OBC, SC, and ST Candidates: The cut-off is set at the 40th percentile.
SC-PH, OBC-PH, and ST-PH Candidates: Specific cut-offs are as mentioned above, ensuring a fair evaluation across different categories.

The NEET UG percentile is determined based on the highest marks scored in the all-India common merit list for NEET UG 2024.

Registration and Qualification Data

Out of the total 24,06,079 students who registered for NEET UG 2024, 23,33,162 appeared for the test. Among these, 13,15,853 candidates successfully qualified. The data provided by the NTA reveals that 5,46,566 male students, 7,69,277 female students, and 10 transgender students have cleared the examination, showcasing diversity in the pool of successful candidates.

Upcoming Counselling Process

With the release of the re-revised results, the dates for all-India quota (AIQ) seat counselling are anticipated to be announced soon. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the AYUSH Admissions Central Counseling Committee (AACCC) are expected to provide updates on the NEET counselling 2024 dates in the near future.

According to the media reports, this forthcoming announcement will be crucial for candidates as they prepare for the next steps in their medical and dental education journey.

By addressing the concerns surrounding the controversial physics question and adjusting the cut-off scores, the NTA has ensured a more equitable outcome for all candidates.
