How Rohit Kumar sold mobile covers to fund his studies and crack the NEET 2025 exam

In a country where cracking competitive exams like National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – NEET entrance exam, often requires expensive coaching and uninterrupted support, Rohit Kumar’s story breaks the mold. The 20-year-old boy from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, cleared NEET UG 2025 while juggling work as a mobile cover seller, driven solely by his dreams to become a doctor and uplift his family. His journey from the street seller to the NEET merit list has now become a national symbol of perseverance and purpose.

Rohit’s journey did not begin in a coaching classroom, it began behind the counter of a small medical shop in Jamshedpur. After completing Class 10, he took up the job to ease his family’s financial burden. As he watched doctors walked in and listened to customers speak of treatments, something within him stirred.

It was in that environment, surrounded by medicines and patients, that Rohit Kumar first discovered his ambition – to become a doctor – not just to wear white coat, but to serve. Even as he continued working to support his family, he remained committed to his studies. He passed Class 12 with distinction, emerging as the school topper, and his goal became firmly rooted; to clear NTA NEET and carve a place for himself in the field of medicine.

Selling Mobile Covers by Day, Chasing NEET by Night

While many NEET aspirants depend on structured coaching, notes and air-conditioned classrooms, Rohit’s preparation was powered by resilience and routine. He began selling mobile covers at the Sakchi Market – local market in Jamshedpur, to support his household expenses. His days were spent on the footpaths; while his nights were devoted to books.

While preparing for his Class 12 board exams, Rohit devoted 3 to 4 hours a day to his studies. However, once he committed himself to cracking NEET 2025 exam, his routine became far more demanding. He pushed himself to study 12 to 13 hours a day, making use of every free-time between work shift to revise chapters, solve questions and strengthen his grasp on each subject.

“There were times I felt like giving up. I was working hard but not getting the expected results. But then I reminded myself – success never comes overnight. It’s practice, patience and pain that make it real.” He shared.

A Family That Became His Strength

At the heart of Rohit’s extraordinary journey lies a quiet but powerful force – his family. His father earns a modest living at a local vegetable market, while his mother holds the home together with unwavering strength. Though money was often limited, what they never failed to give him was belief – an unshaken faith in his potential, even when the world around them were little uncertain. It was his family’s constant emotional anchor that gave Rohit the courage to keep moving forward, no matter how difficult the path became.

“My parents are like God to me. Whatever I am today is because of them.” Rohit said with emotion. “They never let me feel alone in this journey. My brother, teachers and friends – they all stood by me.”

He added, “There were people who tried to demotivate me, but my friends never let those voice get to me. We need to surround ourselves with people who lift us, not pull us down.”

A Voice to Those Who Feel Defeated

Rohit’s success has not only changed the direction of his own life but has also given him a voice – which he uses to reach out to the students who feel defeated by failure. To those burdened by pressure, self-doubt or despair, his message is heartfelt and deeply human.

“Taking your own life is never the answer,” he says with quiet conviction. “No exam result is worth the unbearable pain your parents would go through. If something does not work out, try again – or try something new. One exam does not decide your worth. Sometimes, life has something even better in store – you just have to keep going.”

For those weighed down by judgement or negative voices around them, Rohit offers a lesson he has lived by: “Do not let anyone’s words break your spirit. Listen from one ear and purge from other. What truly matters is how strongly you believe in yourself.”

His words, born from experience and struggle, are now lighting the way for countless others still searching for theirs.

A Future in Medicine, Fueled by Purpose and Perseverance

With a NEET 2025 score of 549 marks and an All India Rank (AIR) of 12,484 in his second attempt, Rohit is now one step closer to his dream of becoming a doctor. He hopes to get admission in government medical college in Jharkhand and plans to specialise in neurology or cardiology. His goal is not just to treat patients, but to serve them with the same care and empathy that once inspired him while working at a medical store in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

Since the NTA NEET 2025 result were announced, Rohit’s journey has touched the hearts across the country. His story has gone viral on social media, where students, teachers and parents and even strangers have praised him for his courage and hard work.

People see Rohit not just as a NEET qualifier, but as a role model – someone who proved that success does not depend on background or money, but on belief, effort and an attitude of never giving up.

More Than Just a Rank: A Story That Moved a Nation

The NEET UG 2025 results, declared on June 14, 2025 at neet.nta.nic.in, saw over 12.36 lakh students qualifying for medical and dental courses. While Rajasthan’s Mahesh Kumar topped the exam with AIR 1 and 99.99 percentile, it is stories like Rohit Kumar’s that stands out – not because of a rank, but through the strength it took him to get there.

In a country where exams often define futures, Rohit reminds us that it is not the number on the scorecard, but the journey behind it, that defines who were truly are.
