Gadchiroli: A significant encounter took place today between Gadchiroli Police and Maoists, resulting in the neutralisation of 12 Maoists and the recovery of several automatic weapons. The operation, which began around 10 a.m., was launched from Gadchiroli in response to credible intelligence about the presence of 12-15 Maoists camped near Wandoli Village, close to the Chhattisgarh border.

The operation involved seven C60 teams, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operations), who were dispatched to the area after receiving detailed intelligence about the Maoist camp. The encounter, which started in the afternoon, saw a heavy exchange of fire that continued intermittently until late evening, lasting for over six hours.

During the intense firefight, Gadchiroli Police managed to neutralise 12 Maoists. The area search following the battle led to the recovery of seven automatic weapons, including three AK-47 rifles, two INSAS rifles, one carbine, and one SLR. Among those identified among the deceased Maoists was DVCM Laxman Atram, also known as Vishal Atram, the Incharge of Tipagad Dalam.

The ongoing area search is expected to reveal more details about the Maoists involved and any additional recovery of weapons or equipment. The identification process of the deceased Maoists is underway to provide further insights into their affiliations and roles within the Maoist organization.

In the course of the encounter, one Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) from the C60 unit and one jawan sustained bullet injuries. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening. Both injured personnel have been evacuated from the scene and are currently receiving treatment in Nagpur, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

This operation marks a significant blow to the Maoist presence in the region and underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to combat Maoist insurgency. The successful neutralisation of such a large number of Maoists and the seizure of substantial weaponry is a notable achievement in the fight against insurgent activities.
