INDICA has unveiled an exciting opportunity for Indic authors to contribute to an upcoming anthology inspired by the imaginative direction of Nag Ashwin in his film “Kalki 2898 AD.” This cinematic work breathes life into the ancient myth of Kalki Purana, depicting a future dystopia where mythological elements intertwine with futuristic concepts. At the heart of the narrative lies Ashwatthama, cursed with immortality by Lord Krishna, a curse that binds him to protect the birth of Vishnu’s final avatar, Kalki. This fusion of Ithihasa, Puranas, and science fiction promises a visually striking and narrative-rich experience.
Titled “Kalki & The Seven Immortals,” the anthology expands on Ashwin’s creative vision by featuring seven stories that delve into the lives of the revered immortals (Chiranjeevis) from Hindu scriptures—Ashwatthama, Bali, Vyasa, Hanuman, Vibhishana, Kripacharya, and Parashurama.
Authors are invited to explore the timeless journeys of these figures, spanning centuries and encompassing pivotal historical moments, personal reflections, and epic battles. The anthology aims to culminate in the dramatic emergence of the Kalki Avatar, where each immortal plays a pivotal role alongside Kalki in restoring balance to the world.
INDICA encourages authors to reimagine these legendary tales through the lens of speculative fiction, infusing their narratives with creativity while maintaining authenticity. Submissions must be entirely original and should not reference Ashwin’s cinematic universe.
Curated by Hari Vadlamani, Founder of INDICA, and supported by a team of scholars, the anthology will offer selected authors three months to submit their first drafts. Development editor Otis Haschemeyer will guide authors through refinement stages, followed by final editing by Michael Thorn. Blue One Ink will publish the anthology, targeting a release in the first quarter of 2025.
Interested authors are invited to submit their published works along with their chosen immortals to namaste@indica.org.in. One author will be selected for each immortal to contribute to this ambitious project.
