Gadchiroli: Surrender of Maoists carrying significant rewards are continuing in Maoist infested Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. In the latest episode, two female operatives of the banned CPI Maoist have laid down arms before the authorities on Thursday, July 11.

Pramila Sukhram Boga alias Manjubai (36) and Akhila Sanker Pudo alias Ratnamala (34) surrendered before the officials of the police citing disgruntlement with the Maoist’s ideology. Both Pramila and Akhila were members of the Platoon Party Committee of the outlawed outfit said police in an official statement.

Pramila who was associated with the Maoist outfit for years have a total of 40 cases pending against her in separate police stations. She was part of the team of the outlaws which had direct confrontation with the security forces on as many as 20 times.

Other than the encounters she has also been named in two cases pertaining to arson incidents. She was carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakhs on her head as announced by the government.

The other surrendered cadre, Akhila has also been named in as many as 7 cases including of murder and her participation in encounter with security forces for which a reward of Rs 8 lakh was also announced on her.

With the latest addition of Pramila and Akhila the surrender tally of hardcore Maoists who have surrendered before the Gadchiroli police in the last three years has risen to 21.

String of surrender in Gadchiroli

Located on the eastern most corner of the state, the Gadchiroli district has been a long held bastion of the outlawed group who have suffered some major blows in the region in the last few years mostly due to strategic advancement of security forces in core Maoist’s territory.

The district shares its eastern border with the infamous Maad region of Chhattisgarh, an alleged headquarters of the Maoists covered with dense forests and largely unexplored terrain.

However, the recent advancement of security forces in the Maad region has badly affected the safe passage through which the Maoists used to escape uninterruptedly in neighboring Gadchiroli.

The development has eventually led to surge in surrenders by the Maoist cadres who are now finding it difficult to hold their ground given the augmenting pressure of the forces.

In a significant development recently two more senior female cadres identified as Bali alias Rambatti alias Zarina Narote and Sasikala alias Chandrakala alias Sunanda alias Manisha Uike, both section commanders of Company no 10 of the banned Maoist group have also surrendered before the police on June 27.

Bali Narote had joined the Maoist outfit in the year 2010 as a Dalam member and rose to rank of section commander in subsequent years. She has been named in a total of 21 cases pending against her in separate police stations.

The other female cadre Uike was reported to be active in the Maoist group for thirteen years and she too had joined the outlaws as Dalam member, a total of 8 cases are pending against Uike for which a bounty of Rs 8 lakh has already been announced by the government.

The surrender of Uike and Narote has taken place days after notorious Maoist Nangsu Turmeti alias Giridhar along with wife, Sangeeta Usendi alias Lalita had also surrender before the police in presence of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis on June 22.

The surrendered couple were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 41 lakh on their heads as announced by the central and the state government. Giridhar who joined the outlawed outfit in the year 1996 has a total of 179 cases pending against him. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 25 Lakh on his head and was reported to be in-charge of a significant formation of Maoists.
