In a recent statement, M.A. Baby, a member of the CPM Polit Bureau, emphasized the need for the party to be receptive to the concerns and opinions of the people. Baby highlighted that the party should not only acknowledge its mistakes but also ensure that the corrections made are convincing to the public. He expressed concern over the weakened state of the Bharatia Lefts in the current Parliament, suggesting a decline in their representation from previous satisfactory levels. The party’s popularity has eroded, and it is now facing desperate conditions.

According to Baby, the CPM should be open to accepting criticism from within the party and taking necessary actions accordingly. He emphasized that the Lefts should listen to the expressions and opinions of the people with the same level of attentiveness that they communicate their own ideas.

Furthermore, Baby urged an examination of whether the words, actions, and lifestyles of party leaders have contributed to the problems faced by the party. He warned that unless appropriate corrections are made, larger setbacks may be in store. Baby emphasized that regaining the lost popularity of the Left can only be accomplished through realistic and bold self-criticism accompanied by corrective measures.

The criticism voiced by Baby is reflective of the concerns raised by various district committees of the CPM and CPI, the largest and second-largest constituents of the CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF). These committees have been critical of the words, deeds, and alleged corruption of party leaders. Baby’s statement serves as a clear indication of the ongoing internal dynamics within the party.

It is evident that the CPM needs to address these issues promptly and prioritize the voices of the people. By embracing self-criticism and implementing necessary corrections, the party can work towards rebuilding its popularity and reinstating trust among the public. The concerns expressed by Baby and the district committees highlight the urgency for the CPM to listen to the people and demonstrate its commitment to their interests.
