Ali Raza, an official with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) currently posted in the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Karachi. The attack occurred on July 7, and the assailants remain unidentified and at large.
Ali Raza was reportedly one of the conspirators behind the 2015 Gurdaspur terrorist attack in India, which resulted in the deaths of seven people, including four security personnel. The incident had heightened tensions between India and Pakistan and brought international attention to the region’s security challenges.

Details surrounding the circumstances of Raza’s death remain unclear, and Pakistani authorities have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
On July 27, 2015, at around 5:30 AM, three heavily armed terrorists dressed in army uniforms launched a deadly attack in Dinanagar, Gurdaspur, Punjab. The terrorists first hijacked a Maruti car, PB 09B 7743, after shooting its occupant, Shri Kamaljit Singh. They then opened fire indiscriminately around the Dinanagar bus stand and targeted a Punjab Roadways bus, PB 06G 9569, coming from Bamial.

The terrorists proceeded to the Dinanagar Police Station, where they attacked the sentry on guard duty, injuring Home Guards Rajinder Kumar and Ashok Kumar. Station House Officer (SHO) SI Mukhtiar Singh, who rushed to the scene, was also injured. Despite the chaos, HC Ram Lal bravely fought back, preventing the terrorists from entering the police station building by bolting the door from inside. During this assault, three patients at the nearby Kiran Hospital were shot, two fatally.
The assailants then moved to the Punjab Home Guards office behind the police station, killing three home guard officials in their indiscriminate firing.
Police reinforcements, including senior officers like the Director General of Police, Punjab, quickly arrived to manage the situation. The Punjab Police effectively engaged the terrorists, eventually neutralizing all three. However, Superintendent of Police (Detective) Shri Baljeet Singh was martyred in the operation.
In the aftermath, authorities recovered incriminating materials from the terrorists, including three AK-47 rifles, 19 magazines, and two GPS devices. Preliminary GPS data analysis suggested that the terrorists infiltrated from Pakistan near Tash in Gurdaspur district, where the Ravi River crosses the border. The same group is suspected of planting five IEDs on the railway track near Talwandi village, which were defused by a bomb disposal squad. A night vision device was also found at the site.
The Ministry of Home Affairs closely monitored the situation, with the Army and NSG on standby. The Chief Minister of Punjab received assurances of support from the Central Government. In total, the attack resulted in the deaths of three civilians, three home guards, and one police officer, with 10 civilians and seven security personnel injured.
