On July 3, 2024, the Fatehpur Police in Uttar Pradesh arrested two relatives, Dilnawaz and Rakimuddin, in connection with the murder of a 9-year-old student inside a madrasa.

The victim, who was sexually assaulted on June 29, was killed by Dilnawaz, a ‘hafiz’ and teacher at the madrasa, and Rakimuddin, the maulvi and brother-in-law of Dilnawaz. Fearing exposure, the duo strangled the child and disposed of his body in a well near a cemetery.

According to reports, Dilnawaz was addicted to watching porn and found the victim alone in the madrasa, where he committed the sexual assault. The child resisted the assault, leading to his murder.

After killing the innocent kid, Dilnawaz and Rakimuddin stuffed the body into a sack and threw it into a well near the cemetery, located just 400 meters away from the madrasa. They transported the body on a bike.

Superintendent of Police (SP) IPS Uday Shankar Singh revealed that 20 students are studying in the madrasa and that separate investigations are being conducted by the Child Welfare Committee and the District Minority Welfare Department. The legality of the madrasa is also being checked by the authorities.

On June 30, shepherds from Saura village spotted the dead body of a child floating in a well and informed the police. The police recovered the body, which had its hands and feet tied and a tape placed over the mouth. The family of the child identified the deceased as their 9-year-old son and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO Act.

Based on the complaint of the victim’s family, the maulvi and hafiz of the madrasa were detained by the police.

The family had enrolled the child in the Ulama Madrassa in Saura for Arabic and religious study a few months ago. Following the post-mortem, the dead body was handed over to the family for last rites.
