On June 25, a Muslim woman from the national capital, Delhi, voluntarily reverted to the Sanatan fold and did Ghar Wapsi.  Following her marriage to a Hindu man, she approached the local police for protection. She claimed that the duo has been receiving threats from her sisters and maternal uncles. The woman visited the Netaji Subhash Place police station last week, submitting court affidavits, wedding documents, and photographs to prove that her marriage was consensual and of her own will.

According to a report by Swarajya, the woman detailed in her complaint that her sisters, Mariya and Aisha, and her maternal uncle had been threatening her due to her marriage to a Hindu man and the ghar wapsi. They allegedly attempted to falsely implicate her husband in a rape case to disrupt their marriage.

The woman married her partner and did ghar wapsi last year against her family’s wishes. Since then, her relatives have been pressuring her to leave her husband and return to her family.

The woman filed the recent complaint after her sisters forcibly entered her home on June 24, demanding that she end her marriage. Despite these threats, the woman reiterated that her relationship with her husband had been healthy and consensual. She had willingly done ghar wapsi and submitted a court affidavit confirming her voluntary decision.

The woman’s father passed away when she was three years old, leaving her to be raised by her mother. She has a brother who works in Dubai and is unaware of her marriage. She met her husband through a mutual friend and admired Hindu culture. They dated for about two years before deciding to marry.

Initially, she did not live with her husband, hoping to gain her sisters’ acceptance first. However, her family rejected the marriage and began issuing threats.

The police informed the woman’s family that their accusations of kidnapping against her husband were baseless. Despite this, her sisters continued to threaten her privately with false charges if she did not leave her husband. In response, the couple recorded a social media post stating that they married out of love and that the woman’s ghar wapsi was entirely her choice.
