Guwahati: Muslim woman embraces Sanatan in Karimganj district of Assam to live her dream life with her Hindu life partner. A Muslim bride was converted to Hinduism after marrying a Hindu youth at a ‘Ghar Wapsi’ ceremony in Patharkandi area of Karimganj district in southern Assam on May 26.  After a long-term love affair, Amina left her religion and married a Hindu youth by converting to Sanatan according to Indian law.  Amina got married to her groom, Shyam Ravidas in a traditional ceremony organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad at Patharkandi. From now onwards Amina will be known as Radha Ravidas.

As per the information, Amina and Shyam had a love affair for over two years. On July 31, 2020, Amina Begum, daughter of Nachir Uddin of Tilbhum area under the Patharkandi police station, converted to Hinduism and married Shyam.  Amina changed her name to Radha Ravidas after getting married according to the laws at that time.  But after she got married to Shyam and changed her religion, she was threatened by her family and relatives.

Shyam’s family was also not able to accept them due to the confrontation with Amina’s family. Although they became husband and wife by law, their families have not accepted them socially.  They were hiding in different parts of the country for four consecutive years for fear of family and relatives and the red eye of the society. In the meantime Amina alias Radha became a mother of a son. After the birth of their son, both Shyam and Radha decided to return home and thought that they would face whatever the consequences. Finally, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) came forward to help Shyam and Radha.

They were given the social status of legal husband and wife at a ‘Ghar Wapsi’ ceremony organised at Medley Tea Estate on May 26. A formal marriage ceremony was held with Sanatani rituals to give Shyam and Radha s social identity as husband-wife.

Both Shyam and Radha expressed their gratitude for the social acceptance provided by VHP to them. Radha said she felt relaxed and at home after the ceremony. “Now we can face the society with pride and courage. I am happy with my decision, as I am living a happy life with my small family. Now the family will have bigger and more joyful moments to follow, ” she added.
