In Uttar Pradesh, two separate incidents of Ghar Wapsi have come to light where Muslim women have embraced Sanatan Dharma in the districts of Bareilly and Sitapur. In Bareilly, Nisha accepted Sanatan Dharma and became Radhika. She then married a young man named Rajesh Kumar.
Similarly, in Sitapur, Nida Bano did Ghar Wapsi to become Nidhi. Nidhi chose Rachit Kumar as her life partner. Both weddings took place on May 18, 2024, and were conducted with Vedic chants, accompanied by slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ raised by Hindu organisations.
On May 18, Nisha arrived at the Agastya Muni Ashram with Rajesh. They presented proof of their adulthood to Pandit K.K. Shankhdhar and expressed their desire to marry. After reviewing their affidavits and other legal documents, Pandit Shankhdhar solemnised their marriage according to Vedic rituals. Before the marriage, Nisha did Ghar Wapsi and became a Hindu. During the ceremony, Nisha participated in a havan with Rajesh and chanted praises to Hindu deities.
Nisha, the daughter of Zakir, is originally from the Shyohara police station area of Bijnor. Rajesh is also from the Nehtaur area of Bijnor. Nisha revealed that Rajesh used to visit her village to meet his relatives. About five years ago, they became acquainted, which later turned into love. Nisha’s family opposed this relationship. Rajesh wandered across several districts to find a place to marry Nisha, eventually discovering the Agastya Muni Ashram in Bareilly.

Here, the Ghar Wapsi ritual and the marriage were performed with all legal documentation in place.
Pandit K.K. Shankhdhar shared that after the marriage, he received threats from individuals associated with Bareilly’s Ala Hazrat, accusing him of illegal conversion of Muslim girls and women. He clarified that all the women who marry through him are adults, and their ‘Ghar Wapsi’ is their own decision. He hopes the administration will take strict action against the threats and ensure their safety.

The second case is from Sitapur district, where a woman named Nida Bano accepted Sanatan Dharma and is now known as Nidhi. She married a Hindu youth named Rachit Kumar in a Vedic ceremony held at a Hindu temple. She also underwent shuddhi and did Ghar Wapsi. Members of the organisation ‘Rashtriya Hindu Sher Sena’ acted as the wedding party. During the ceremony, slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ were chanted, and Nida and Rachit participated in a havan together.
Vikas Hindu, president of the Rashtriya Hindu Sher Sena revealed that Nida, the 20-year-old daughter of Parvez, and Rachit had been in love for three years. Nida is originally from the Imaliya police station area in Sitapur, while 22-year-old Rachit is her neighbour. They attended the same school. Nida’s family opposed this relationship, and her brother even attempted to strangle her upon learning about it. They also threatened Rachit’s family.
Eventually, Rachit and Nida contacted Vikas Hindu, who promised them respect and protection. Nida underwent purification rituals and was renamed Nidhi. Later, they were married at the Kalipith Temple in Sitapur city.
Nida expressed immense happiness after the Ghar Wapsi and marriage. She shared that the concepts of triple talaq and halala had frightened her. She was happy to have undergone ‘Ghar Wapsi’ to Hindu dharma and to have Rachit as her husband. The Rashtriya Hindu Sher Sena has requested the administration to provide security for the newlyweds.
