Assam: Islamists attack Hindu village in Barpeta; 4 persons seriously injured; 8 attackers arrested by police

Islamists launched an assault on Hindu villagers in Barpeta district of Assam, leaving four indigenous people severely injured. The attack, carried out by migrant Muslims in Bamunbari village under Kayakuchi police station, prompted swift action from Barpeta Police, resulting in the arrest of eight attackers from the religious minority community

Guwahati: Islamists attacked Hindu villagers in Barpeta district of Assam on May 15. Four indigenous people were seriously injured in the attack carried out by migrant Muslims in Bamunbari village under Kayakuchi police station of the district. Barpeta Police arrested eight attackers from the religious minority community in connection with a gang attack on indigenous people in Bamunbari village last night  The eight arrested accused were identified as Zakir Khan, Atwar Ali, Inzamamul Haque, Zainal Abdeen, Nur Mohammad Mia, Nirazul Mia, Shahab Ali and Badiul Khan.

All the arrested accused are  residents of Howli police station. It should be mentioned that there was a scuffle between school students of both communities on May 15. The scuffle was shortened by locals without causing any injury to any students. Later, the Muslim villagers, equipped with swords, iron rods, and sharp weapons, attacked the Hindu village. The sudden attack by Islamists took the Hindu villagers by surprise.

Four persons were seriously injured in the organised attack by the Islamist. They are Kanak Das, Mousam Das, Bikas Das and Kankan Talukdar. The injured were rushed to Barpeta Medical College Hospital. Villagers said that the organised attack was carried out under the leadership of one Johur Khan. But the mastermind of the attack on Hindu villagers is still absconding.

After strict instruction from CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, minister Jayanta Malla Barua visited the area and talked with local people. He also visited the hospital and met the injured admitted there. He assured that the culprits of the attack will be brought to justice. Police registered a case and the arrested persons were booked under Sections 147/148/149/294/325/307/379 of the Indian Penal Code with case number 198/24 at Barpeta Sadar Police Station  The accused were produced before the Barpeta Magistrate’s Court this afternoon and the magistrate sent them to judicial custody.
