Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded on May 13 to the Opposition’s ‘retirement jab’ at the Prime Minister, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi would lead the country even after 2029.
“PM Modi is going to become the Prime Minister for the third term and he would continue to lead the BJP not just in 2029, but even after that,” Amit Shah said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to the opposition’s criticism of the Prime Minister’s age, noting that PM Modi will turn 75 next year.
In his first press conference after being released from jail, Delhi CM and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal attacked PM Modi and questioned the BJP who will be NDA’s PM face as PM Modi will turn 75 next year.
Arvind Kejriwal referred to the BJP’s unofficial retirement policy for leaders aged 75, questioning whether PM Modi would retire in 2025, as he will turn 75 on September 17 that year.
“PM Modi is turning 75, on September 17. He made a rule that leaders in the party would retire after 75 years. Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan, and Yashwant Sinha were retired, and PM Modi is going to retire on September 17,” Arvind Kejriwal said.
Responding to Arvind Kejriwal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that Prime Minister Modi will spearhead BJP’s campaign even in the 2029 elections, extending his leadership for another five years. If PM Modi wins the historic 2029 elections, he will surpass Nehru to become India’s longest-serving Prime Minister, marking a significant milestone. No Prime Minister has ever clinched victory in four consecutive elections, making PM Modi’s potential win in 2029 a groundbreaking achievement. If successful, PM Modi would rewrite the annals of Indian political history.
“I want to tell Arvind Kejriwal and the I.N.D.I Alliance that there is no need to be happy about Modiji turning 75. It is not written in the Constitution of the BJP that Modiji cannot become Prime Minister. He will again become prime minister and complete the term,” Amit Shah said.
