Allegations have arisen against Sagheer Saeed Khan, a prominent Congress leader in Jammu and Kashmir, regarding his purported promises concerning terrorism and national security. Khan is accused of pledging Rs 1 crore to families of terrorists killed by Indian Armed Forces and promising to release all innocent detainees upon Congress’s ascension to power.

Additionally, Khan allegedly advocated for capital punishment for BJP leaders involved in what he termed “Hindu terrorism” in the region.

These statements have triggered widespread criticism, with opponents labelling Congress as anti-national. Khan criticised the BJP for exacerbating the situation in Kashmir, attributing the violence and fatalities to their actions.

This move has drawn comparisons to past instances where the Congress Party allegedly supported terrorists, by providing legal aid and expressing sympathy, as seen during the Batla House incident, when Sonia Gandhi apparently shed tears after the terrorists were killed.

Critics argue that Khan’s support for terrorists undermines the sacrifices of soldiers defending the nation. They stress the importance of maintaining national security, especially during times of conflict. Soldiers remain vigilant to protect the country from threats, whether in times of war or peace.

Following the withdrawal of support from its coalition partner, the BJP, the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir collapsed, leading to the imposition of Governor’s rule. Since then security forces have reportedly neutralised more than 230 terrorists in the region this year.
