In a collaborative effort aimed at combating drug trafficking, Assam Rifles, in conjunction with Mizoram’s Zokhawthar police, conducted a successful operation leading to the apprehension of an individual and the seizure of narcotics valued at Rs 42.7 lakh in Champhai district.
The operation, which transpired in the General Area Melbuk, unfolded on Saturday following specific intelligence inputs received by the security forces. Acting swiftly upon the information, a team comprised of Assam Rifles personnel and Zokhawthar police officers embarked on the mission to intercept illicit activities in the region.
According to official sources, the joint team achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing campaign against smuggling activities. The operation culminated in the confiscation of Heroin No 4, weighing approximately 61 grams, with an estimated street value of Rs 42.70 lakh.
“The operation was carried out by a combined team of Assam Rifles in Zokhawthar with the Police Department in Zokhawthar, Champhai District, based on specific information,” it added.The entire consignment and apprehended individual were handed over to Police Department Zokhawthar, Champhai District for further legal proceedings, the release stated.
The release further mentioned that the Assam Rifles have doubled their efforts to nab the kingpins of the smuggling of contraband items in Mizoram. (With inputs from ANI)
