A recent editorial in the Jeevadeepthi, the mouthpiece of Varappuzha Arch Diocese, has sparked concerns within both the ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). Titled “Who should lead the country?” and authored by Fr Xavier Kudiamsserry from Alappzuha, the editorial offers insights into potential political shifts ahead of the upcoming parliament elections.
Praising the BJP’s leadership as courageous and powerful, the editorial highlights the party’s development projects, foreign policy, and the global respect garnered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It also lauds the absence of corruption in the Modi regime and predicts that the BJP may open its account in Kerala in the upcoming elections. The editorial suggests that keeping the BJP at arm’s length may lead to isolation and advocates for engagement rather than exclusion.
Furthermore, the editorial criticizes both the LDF and UDF for their communal appeasement strategies and questions the benefits the Church has received from the Congress despite its longstanding support. It also casts doubt on the ideological foundation of the I.N.D.I Alliance, while dismissing the prospects of the communists and Congress at the national level.
The editorial’s viewpoints have stirred controversy within the Congress and Communist circles, signaling potential political upheavals in Kerala.
