Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a candid conversation with some of India’s top online gaming creators on April 13, where he expressed his views on the regulation of online gaming and emphasised the importance of guiding budding gamers. During the interaction, PM Modi conveyed that it would not be ideal for online gaming to be regulated and advocated for its growth within an organised and legal framework.

PM Modi spoke about the differences between gaming and gambling. He also asked gamers to send an e-mail mentioning all their problems with exact key points to his office.

PM Narendra Modi stated, “To regulate would not be ideal because it is the nature of government to intervene, that is its fundamental nature. Either impose restrictions under the law or try to understand and mould it basis our country’s needs. Bring it under an organised, legal structure and uplift the reputation,” Modi said during an interaction with top gamers on being asked if there could be a regulatory body for gaming.

“Once that is achieved, it will be hard for anyone to bring it down. My endeavour is to uplift the nation to a level that by 2047, the middle class does not require unnecessary government intervention. Otherwise, we will remain trapped in the cycle of paperwork, documents and legal systems. It is the poor who need the government the most in difficult times…” Modi added.

PM Modi articulated his vision to uplift the country to a level where unnecessary government intervention is minimized, particularly for the middle-class populace, by 2047. He underscored the need to streamline bureaucratic processes to empower the underprivileged and ensure government assistance reaches those who need it the most.

The Prime Minister also expressed a light-hearted concern about not getting addicted to gaming as he tried his hand at playing some of the games during the interaction. He then delved into a discussion about the perception of gaming, distinguishing it from gambling, with one of the creators explaining the complexity and skill required in games like chess.

Several gaming creators shared their personal journeys and experiences, highlighting the growing trend of young individuals pursuing gaming as a career choice. Animesh Agarwal, for instance, recounted seeking a one-year break from his parents to pursue gaming after completing his Chartered Accountancy studies, with unwavering support from his family.

PM Modi acknowledged the increasing interest in gaming careers among young children and stressed the importance of providing them with better guidance and mentorship to navigate their professional paths effectively. He encouraged gaming creators to communicate their concerns and challenges to his office through email, indicating his willingness to address their issues.

While interacting with Top Indian Gamers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discusses the issues of Global warming and climate change.

PM Modi says “People have offered different solutions. I have laid an alternate solution called ‘Mission LIFE’ which advocates for changing our daily lifestyle to benefit the environment. Now, envision a game aimed at addressing global climate issues, where the gamer must explore various methods and solutions to identify the most sustainable approach. What are these steps? How do we navigate through it and choose the best approach for success? Take Swachhata as an example, the game theme could revolve around cleanliness and every child should play this game. The youth should embrace Indian values and understand their true significance…”

The interaction featured famous Indian gamers including Animesh Agarwal, Naman Mathur, Mithilesh Patankar, Payal Dhare, Tirth Mehta, Ganesh Gangadhar, and Anshu Bisht. The gaming industry in India peaked in 2019 and since then, various games have emerged based on Indian mythology, and the government has been recognising the creativity.

While the country’s Esports landscape is mobile-dominated, it is the PC title League of Legends that is making the country proud. Despite the game having no official server in India, the determination and passion of the game’s talented athletes saw them utilize their skills to impressively qualify for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
