On March 28, a significant event unfolded in Sitapur as Hina Ali, a 20-year-old Muslim girl, embraced Sanatan Dharma and married her Hindu partner Mahesh Maurya in a ceremony marked by Vedic rituals. The decision came amidst communal tensions following the tragic killing of two Hindu children, Aayush and Ahaan, allegedly by individuals named Sajid and Javed in Badaun.

Hina, formerly known as Hina Ali, hails from the Khairabad police station neighbourhood in Sitapur. Her father, Tahir Ali, runs a salon in the area. Choosing to renounce Islam, Hina adopted the name Sangeeta, reminiscent of the mother of the deceased boys, and solemnized her union with Mahesh per Hindu customs.

According to Hina, her relationship with Mahesh blossomed over the course of two and a half years. Despite familial opposition, particularly from her father, who staunchly disapproved of her association with Mahesh and labelled Hindus as infidels, Hina persisted in her love for Mahesh. In contrast, Mahesh’s family supported their relationship, enabling the couple to pursue their love despite challenges.

Seeking guidance and support, Hina reached out to Vikas Hindu, the national president of the ‘Hindu Sher Sena.’ Subsequently, she made the decision to embrace Hinduism, paving the way for her marriage to Mahesh.

The couple exchanged vows in a traditional Hindu ceremony conducted at the Mata Kali temple in Kanshiram Colony, Sitapur city. Amidst chants of Vedic mantras and cries of “Jai Shri Ram,” the newlyweds found solace in the blessings of Hindu groups and Mahesh’s family. Expressing concerns for their safety, the couple has requested protection from the authorities.

Vikas Hindu, instrumental in facilitating the marriage, spoke to the media, highlighting Hina’s struggle against religious constraints and family pressure. Despite her father’s attempts to arrange a Muslim groom for her, Hina remained steadfast in her resolve to marry Mahesh.

Hina recounted the pivotal moment that spurred her decision – the tragic murders of two Hindu minors in Badaun. Shocked and moved by the incident, she resolved to embrace Hinduism. In a video statement, Hina revealed that the accused perpetrators operated a barbershop similar to her father’s business, adding a personal dimension to her decision.

Mahesh, echoing Hina’s sentiments, affirmed their commitment to each other despite the challenges they faced. Now happily married, the couple looks forward to a future united in love and faith.
